Progressive Populist Caucus, 2/26, Houston
OUR PROGRESSIVE POPULIST CAUCUS URGES YOU TO JOIN US AT OUR ANNUAL MEETING, SATURDAY, FEB. 26, NOON TILL 3.

ST. STEPHENS EPISCOPAL CHURCH HALL, 1805 WEST ALABAMA.

LUNCH WILL BE SERVED COMPLIMENTS OF THE HOUSTON AREA PPC. RSVP NECESSARY TO PLAN FOOD AND SEATING to: Stan.Merriman@sbcglobal.net

We offer you the legendary Ronnie Dugger as our keynoter. He'll speak close to noon on "Winning Back America, One Precinct At A Time". Ronnie was the FIRST "indymedia" with the Texas Observer muckraking magazine founded 50 years ago. It still causes tremors in the hall of the legislature when it stalks for "the story". Ronnie went on to mentor Molly Ivins and Jim Hightower, also past editors of the TO. He wrote at least two major political books on Reagan and LBJ and has written for about every important magazine worth reading political tracts in. He also co-founded the Alliance for Democracy which still is playing a key role in uncovering the electorial fraud in Ohio. Your life will change hearing him on Feb. 26. The PPC will also honor David Van Os and elect a new Statewide Steering Committee.

Admission is free with a voluntary donation if you are so moved to help defray Ronnie's expenses. JOIN US !

9. Kickin it
This past Saturday at our DU Meetup K. & R. (you'll have to show up to get their real names) told us they're in charge of the food for 200 for the Caucus this Saturday. And they're organizing a little happy hour at the Volcano on Bissonnet afterwards.

Dey cool people. Very subversive. You'll like them.:toast:

11. kicking it
OK you Houston DUers we're going to need some good report coverage of the annual meeting. I can't go anymore. My niece is moving this month and she got a real bad flu bug, so her family and I are pitching in to get her in her new digs this weekend.

I know Stan will give us a good review, but I want stories and good Dugger comments. PDittie I'm counting on you.

13. Johncoby's got a thread on the biggest news; here's the rest:
This fourth meeting of the PPC attracted over 200 Texans. I still remember last year's -- the first we attended, at Threadgill's in Austin with Jim Hightower speaking, at which there were about 75 folks. (That's where we met sonias and VelmaD and GOPisEvil for the first time.) It's amazing that turnout has tripled in one year.

Ronnie Dugger gave this year's keynote speech; he is performing a methodical investigation of the defrauded 2004 election -- among the accumulated evidence the fact that the exit polling was revised to be closer to the final vote tallies. It will be some time before he completes his work; he intends it to be an unbiased critical analysis of the events.

David Van Os accepted the Shoe Leather award and, as johncoby has posted, announced his candidacy for Attorney General in 2006 (against GOP incumbent Greg Abbott).

The slate of steering committee candidates was elected by acclamation. They include Chairman Michael Boyette. The entire slate of officers will be posted shortly at http://www.texaspopulists.com

About 25 of us adjourned to Azteca for dinner, and probably 40 PPC-ers met afterwards at Under The Volcano for libations on the patio.

West Houston Dem, ChicanoPwr (I saw you but couldn't catch up to you at the end), of course johncoby and CitySky were DUers in attendance.

Big kudos to Ron & Kris for making sure we all had lunch of tamales and empanadas and gauc and chips and cookies and drinks. Get me on you e-mail blast list, K.

14. Thanks PDittie
I agree that this caucus is the only one having regular meetings and actually growing. Sorry I had to miss this one.

Great going to our PPC members out in Houston for this one.
