22. Hey, that Senator bit works for me!
Who better?

Ya know, it would be really interesting to see what a bunch of DUers could do about pushing CW into power.

24. Well, yes. That works too.
Even Super DUper delegates.

We did build a little machinery when we were trying to put a stick in Joe Wineke's spokes. Be a shame to let that ol' political machine just rust out behind the barn.

3. How do people stay sane here all winter?
This is our first winter in Wisconsin and I'm tired of the snow already. At our home in southern Illinois it is a balmy 57 degrees . . . ahhhhh . . . the way winter should be. My car hasn't started in two weeks since the temperature dropped below freezing but it started today so I went out and ran it a bit. Since it is suppose to be back to 5 degrees Wednesday, I imagine it won't start again. I am afraid it has been trained to be in southern Illinois and just can't handle this temperatures. I know how it feels . . .

4. Now you know what we mean by cabin fever
Even when we have more mild winters, I still get pretty tired of it all by February 1. We haven't had a winter like this for a long time - much more like the winters we had when I was a kid with snow on the ground from November to March/April.

I have no problem with the snow, just the below zero temps and wind. :scared: If I wanted wind, I'd live on the dad burn prairie.

14. You know what?
I was expecting FAR worse than this. The cold, the snow, the nastiness...it hasn't been half as awful as everyone warned me about.

If this lame-assed Texan can deal with it, you p****** need to toughen up, I tell you! :D

15. That's easy to say until the novelty wears off...
Wait until you've been through a dozen winters and then you'll be singing a different tune - LOL! The only good winter day will be a snow day.

I used to work on campus in Madison and every year I would see freshmen students who grew up in the tropics coming to school on a frosty day in October wearing a parka and complaining about the cold. They couldn't believe it was going to get worse and I felt so sorry for them. Now that's a whole different kind of p*******.

16. Yeah I know.
:P

At least I have a roof over my head. A few more months of this and we'll be living in our car.

Ah yes. You missed the meetup. I got fired, and reprehensor doesn't have a job yet. I believe this is what they call "staring into the abyss."

Anybody know anyone in Milwaukee that needs a writer? Full time? Evidently my reputation precedes me at half the places in town so consulting is out.

:eyes:

17. Ooo, bummer!
Milwaukee's a big place. That must be some reputation. ;-)

I had hoped we could make the meetup since we were in Milwaukee for a convention that whole week before. It's my fault. I had to get home for a date with my chicas that had already been rescheduled twice. I think they would have booted me if I had asked to move it again.

There must be some tech temp agencies looking for someone of your amazing talent. I hope you both find something soon.

On the bright side, that must leave you a ton of free time to work on genealogy

18. Yeah, plenty of free time,
but now no free money! :(

I did get to the LDS Center locally today to do a little research before the wrath of God hits tonight. On the plus side, I did stock up on plenty of groceries yesterday, made beef bourguignon, and have ingredients for plenty of other yummy stuff too.

AND we have a generator so we can keep the fridge running if we need to. (And plenty of blankets to snuggle under). What better time to be jobless than during a 14 inch snowstorm? :hi:

19. I don't know about that . . .
Being jobless and stuck inside just makes me depressed. To top it off, my 12 year old van, bless it's heart, won't start when it gets this cold. Fudge stripe, if you find anyone hiring, let me know, so far, everything I have applied for, it seems 3 million other people have also applied for. I interviewed for a school library aid position, (we are talking an 11 dollar an hour job)and they told me I was one of 20 applicants chosen to inteview out of the 90 (yes 90!) that applied for the job. I remember the old days when I could take my pick of job offers. What has happened in this country? It's just sad and pathetic.

20. Sorry to hear that!
I think it is more of the unspecialized stuff. I'm a writer, and there are always writing jobs, it's just that I don't want to consult anymore than I want a large hole in my head. Besides, we need the benefits, and they don't come with the deal when you're a contractor, unfortunately. Is it any wonder that pretty much every company in America has now gone to consulting writers? WAY cheaper.

I've got plenty to keep me busy in weather like this-- working on my family history book, scrapbooking, catching up on my reading, and napping to repelenish my strength before I have to dive back into the working world.

Good luck in your search. I know PeaceNikki said she knows some recruiters around. Maybe PM her for some help?

29. I was just thinking of a rather rotund little East Indian engineering student
I used to know, who bundled in so much stuff all winter that I was afraid he'd fall down somewhere in a snowstorm, be unable to get up, and we'd be out there trying to find him as he was slowly turning into a mogul on Bascom Hill. {{Poke}} Dinesh? That you?

9. blech!
-45 wind chills.....

Winters used to be this bad ALL the time....maybe I am getting soft in my old age.....

the only good thing is the certainty that spring will, eventually, arrive and the trees will be green and the crops will start popping out of the ground again...

sigh....it will be nice to see again.
