Appleton hotels, anyone? (For the convention...)
Whitacre D_WI and I are probably going to the state convention. (We've put our names down to be delegates.)

One of the problems, though, is that while the convention hotel (http://www.radisson.com/appletonwi) looks fabulous, dear lord, is it expensive (even group rates are over $150, so far as I can tell). Does anyone know of a nearby hotel that costs less? Nothing fancy -- just safe and reasonably comfortable.

Thanks.

1. There are alot.
I wopuld stay at on of the nice hotels on Collage Ave. down by HYW. 41.

The Best Western is nice, or even cheaper but nice is the Road Star. I'll think even more about it.

2. From the AAA guidebook:
The 3 diamond rated motels:
The Appleton Wingate Inn has rooms for two from $65 to $165. 920-993-1200.
Country Inn & Suites by Carlson has rooms for two from $75-$150. 920-830-3240
Fairfield Inn by Marriott- rooms for 2 for $66-$73. 920-954-0202
There are other 3 diamond rooms that are higher priced.
The 2 diamond rated motels:
Baymont Inn - $73-$83 (2 people) 920-734-6070
Excel Inn of Appleton $46-$66 (2 people)920-733-5551
Super 8 Motel - $55-$60 (2 people) 920-731-0880
The Roadstar only got one diamond, but has rooms for two from $38-$85.
920-731-5271.
I haven't stayed at ANY of them, so buyer beware!

3. Don't forget the Microtel Inn
There's a lot of cheap options in Appleton and really none of the motels are ghetto or anything so the worst ones are still worth the money.

4. Our county chair
made reservations for us but I'm not sure where.

I'll check on it and get back to you......

My general rule of thumb is to stay either at or within walking distance of the place where the "party" is....eliminate any possibility of driving while intoxicated...... (Green Bay was always great because I could crawl, if necessary, back to the hotel.)

5. Does Appleton...
Have a program where one can get a free or reduced price taxi pass so that you don't drive home drunk? I know that Madison has such a program.
