What ever happened to the income trust investigation by the RCMP?
The one announced during the federal election campaign I mean. It has been six months. Have I missed anything, or is it still being investigated?

1. Nothing reported yet from what I have seen...
Here is a column from April 16, 2006 by Larry Zolf which says they are still investigating:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20060516.html

"Soon the Mounties will report on their inquiry into the income trust affair. I will be very surprised if they come up with anything damaging to the Liberals."

An aside, it is an interesting article re RCMP and the election.

4. I liked this quote by Zolf
"Overall, I think we are too quick to judge the RCMP. There is no Tory-Mountie conspiracy, simply a convergence of interests. The Harper Tories love law and order and the Mounties will give it to them."

I agree with Zolf, that's how it works most of the time.

2. Wasn't Ralph Goodale invovled with that?
I know he was Finance Minister when income trusts were legalized, but wasn't it alleged that he tipped off someone?

3. I don't know if any precise allegations were spelled out
But it did put Goodale under a cloud.

5. The allegations were bogus to begin with
The NDP made the allegation during the campaign to hammer the Liberals and help get Harper elected, which, as luck would have it, matched the agenda of the RCMP, who announced an investigation into the NDP's baseless charges in the middle of the campaign.

I'm sure the NDP and the RCMP were both pleased with the result, as was the media and the Tory bloggers who thought it was just a fine story, and that the whole thing will now just disappear into the ether (not unlike the bogus charges against Dingwall, as I recall.)
