Question for the "Believers"
If we couldn't find one lousy Senator to object to the 2000 election when the "official" vote difference in Florida was within a few hundred votes, why in the world do you believe that we'll find a Senator this time when the "official" vote difference is 100,000+?

2. Perhaps a little thing called...
"weight of evidence"?

Hell, I don't know. Seems like there is a ton to raise a stink about, to me. Gotta keep them bastidges honest.

36. More evidence than Florida 2000?
I don't think so. There was way more evidence that Gore was within striking distance of taking the lead then than Kerry now.

3. I recall that Gore asked them not to object -- for the good of the country
Of course, we didn't appreciate how bad it was going to be for the country.

6. Did Gore really ask them not to? He really played up the fact
that no Senators got up off of their butts when they were certifying the electors. It was one of my favorite parts of F911.

Back then, Bush was just a harmless moderate. Now we've seen the wolf in sheep's clothing.

5. A number of reasons
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 10:13 PM by txindy
In 2000, Al Gore asked them not to object.

In 2000, the suspicions of election fraud weren't as widespread or well-documented before Congress met. (The 'Internets' are a wonderful tool!)

In 2000, there was no (informal) investigation conducted by a Congressman such as John Conyers is managing today.

In 2000, we didn't have the previous four years of h*ll that Junior has brought upon the world as inspiration.

In 2004, we have the examples of the 2000 and 2002 elections to guide -- and warn -- us.

23. Should I put that on my mantel?
If I do, the hearth will end up a mess.

Although, a house has never fallen on my sister, so I'm probably safe. Not to mention the fact that I don't have a sister...

7. Man. I sure do miss President Gore...
Wouldn't things be sooooo much better right now?

I loved it when the Congresspeople were defiantly referring to Gore as "Mr. President" when they were challenging 2000!

but to your post, I myself understand why some doubt and some believe. I try to balance realism and pragmatism with optimism when I can.

8. Either way, the marches and letters are a win-win
If any senators contest, great. If they don't, they'll know they'll have to answer for it, so they'll eventually do something else, like convene hearings, which could lead to indictments, which could lead to resignations.

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was Watergate but we have to keep the heat on.

13. It's like watching a brother or a sister heading off..
...the end of a cliff.

Delusion and denial are not mentally healthy, no matter the circumstance.

Nothing that has been presented so far is sufficiant to yell election fraud on a grand scale. Do things need fixing? Most assuredly, and I applaud the numerous efforts to do so. It will be an ongoing effort. But this is not something that is going to put Kerry in the WH.

20. That is not the goal!
The goal is complete overhaul of the election system. I disagree with your assumption that it is impossible, but it won't make a bit of difference either way. The election should be challenged just like any other crime, there is ample evidence of SOMETHING seriously wrong. It is enough to protest the electoral votes! Then we can move forward with an investigation and if necessary criminal convictions.

17. One of the excuses they used was that no one asked them to object
the other was that gore asked them NOT to. We are NOW asking them to object. I don't know if Kerry will do the same, but that can't use the NO ONE asked them excuse. I don't think the Dems can afford to piss off their constituents anymore. they ARE being asked and they are being strong armed all over Washington by some of the most partisan republicans ever to exist on the face of the earth.

25. Because no one had the balls to do it in 2000 and look where
it got them and the rest of the nation! After 2000, the ball was dropped, no follow through. Now look where we are at. If a senator takes a stand or not, we will continue to scream about the election fraud.

More states were affected this time. Not just Florida, but Florida, Ohio, New Mexico, North Carolina, Nevada. Probably all of them. If they padded the votes by just 11 in each precinct in Ohio, that was enough for the weeds "win". They padded the votes in all of the states to give that silly 2 million plus "victory".

"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."
Abe Lincoln.

Why did folks give up after 2000? I have a problem with all the wise elders here trying to dissuade the efforts to have the election fraud allegations investigated and pursued. Are they mad because we may get a senator to stand this time, when a senator didn't stand in 2000? Why ask why? Just help us get out as many faxes, emails, telephone calls asking a senator to take a stand. What is wrong with that?
