I knew they'd attack Conyers, but
Turkeys? Wha?

http://www.freep.com/news/locway/turkey5e_20050105.htm

Found via drudge, who I took the opportunity to rib a bit about falsely reporting yesterday that Al-Zarqawi had been captured.

3. Holy cow! It's Turkeygate!
:wtf:

Maureen Sorbet, a spokeswoman for the FIA, said Tuesday, "I spoke to the central FIA office in Wayne County, and they were unaware of the turkey situation.

The turkey situation???

Conyers' press secretary Karen Morgan said Tuesday that she was told that some of Conyers' staffers gave the turkeys to poor people whose names were provided by the state Family Independence Agency. A fax with those names, she said, was to be sent Tuesday or today to Gleaners.

By mid-afternoon Tuesday, Fernandes said he had received nothing from Conyers' office.

Is it possible that Conyers and his staff have been a little bit busy working on something else?? Why are they so worried about turkeys? Oh yeah, because they need something to discredit Conyers.

Good grief.

14. says Boyd picked up the turkeys but was also fired in 2002!! fishy

....A Conyers staff member who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal told the Free Press that Grubbs and her cousin, Conyers' Detroit deputy chief of staff Marion Brown, along with a former Conyers aide, DeWayne Boyd, picked up the turkeys and later gave contradictory accounts of what happened to the birds.

The unnamed staff member raised concerns in a memo sent to both the FBI and House ethics committee. Conyers was the target of an informal ethics committee inquiry last year following a Free Press investigation about use of staff members during work hours for political campaigns.

Boyd, who was fired from Conyers' Detroit office in 2002, was convicted on seven counts of fraud last month in U.S. District Court in connection with a scam he ran from Conyers' office in 1999.

Boyd, Brown and Grubbs did not return Free Press calls....

13. So don't you want to see the lists from other Congressmen?
I want to know what other members of congress picked up turkeys and if they faxed over a list of who received the turkeys?

In fact, how about the dollars that everyone donated to charities? We should all receive a list of the people who benefitted from those dollars. Are dollars different than turkeys? How about all those toys collected all over the country? Toy companies contributed a bunch. Have they been faxed a list of kids' names that received the toys? How do those companies know that kids received them at all?

It's a good thing they're not making a fuss over the billions we gave to Iraq that they can't find or account for.

It's hysterical that Freeps are crying out for accountability. They need to be careful.

I just love it that all they could come up with are TURKEYS! It must be a Repuke company cause all they gave were 12 pound turkeys ... how generous!! Wouldn't want those poor families to have any left-overs! I bet those staffers just couldn't resist 12 whole pounds of turkey. Turkey-gate will sure raise a gobble gobble all over our great country. Therefore, never send to know for whom the turkey gobbles, it gobbles for thee.
