Michael Moore on TODAY show (745 am NY time Thursday)
He's just about to come on. I've been channel surfing trying to find news about today's election certification at the Capitol, but all I've seen so far has dealt mainly with the Tsunami, Gonzalez, and Amber Frey. Michael Moore likely will focus on Oscar prospects for F911, wouldn't you think?

12. Moore managed to string a few sentences together, comparing what's about
to unfold at the Capitol today to scenes of the 2001 election certification joint session from F911. He framed the issue for today as, "WILL THE BLACK REPRESENTATIVES BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK" about Republican suppression of the African-American vote, or will once again not one Senator stand with them? I think this is a great way to frame the issue for most Americans. He explicitly said, "this won't change the outcome of the election", but it's important for future elections to have this discussion today.

I agree with MM that today is a potentially very important teachable moment for America, to see Congress discuss the critique of Republican election unfairness in Ohio contained in the100-page House Judiciary Commitee Democratic Staff Report online at http://www.pdamerica.org . Most Americans have NO IDEA of the corrupt election administration that happens in African-American communities every Election Day, even and especially outside the South, when Republicans control a state.

2. I'm certain
F9/11 isn't in the running for an Oscar. I think in his effort to air it, it was taken out of the running. Maybe because it didn't air, it can be considered, not sure.

20. He had to make sure that they had breakfast for him first before he agreed
to come back. Katie said donuts. That was enough. ;)

BTW... still disappointed in him. I think he is much more forceful in his opinions in print and on film, but not so in one to one interviews.

objecting to the vote due to some "irregularities" in Ohio and he hopes a senator will stand with the Black members of congress. it will not change the outcome of the election. done over and out.

11. recap--
defended his role in election- ie mobilizing youth vote
said dems need to more forcefully state our positions and that Repubs did a good job "in casting" wrote a simple message and have a good amature actor in Bush called him a "bumbling, Gilliganesque type person" that people found lovable
stated that majority of Americans do believe in our core values-gun control, higher minimum wage, pro choice but that fear was a huge motivating factor in this election
reminded us that 70 million people did not vote--what is their core values how do we reach them
talked a little about this afternoon asked if one Dem senator has the courage to allow the Representatives to discuss the significant amount of voting irregularities in OH- stated that he did not think that it would change outcome but that it was important to discuss to address problems for future elections
Agreed to come back next hour provided there was breakfast available.
That is all I remember--hope this helps.

14. MM really makes the most of two or three minutes of network air time,
doesn't he?

He's a real communicator, that's for sure, especially when it comes to promoting box-office or DVD sales of his films. I think it's this crassness that generates much of the uneasiness and criticism voiced here on DU whenever his name comes up. But I admire the way he's managed to turn progressivism into a very profitable business for himself. Without MM, often the issues we care about would get NO mainstream media coverage. Just look at the news this morning--the ONLY "coverage" of the joint-session certification of the election so far has been a few sentences from MM.

19. I take issue with him blaming the Dems again, except that they weren't
smart enough to stop the election from being stolen before the first vote was cast.

Kerry won. The exit polls were right.

10. MM made a succinct argument
for a senator to object.

He said that the CBC has investigated and produced a report and that at least one senator, especially a Democratic senator, should give them the chance to have their 5 minutes to talk about what happened in this election. Said that it will not likely change the result but that we need to do it to ensure fair elections in the future.

Before this argument, his lead in was that Democrats have to start standing up for what they believe.

18. It's not from the CBC--It's from Conyers's staff on the House Judiciary Cmte
and the link is given in post #12 above. I guess the fact that the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee is African-American leads some people to attribute what Conyers sets in otion to the CBC, especially when there are very few Barney Franks and Jerrold Nadlers to stand with Conyers, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones of Cleveland, Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson Jr, etc.

You can download the report as a 3.6 meg PDF or as a 2.2 meg ZIP. The Democratic staff on the committee did a SUPERB job of stringing together all the ways Ken Blackwell manipulated election administration to suppress the votes of minorities and poor people. The report has HUNDREDS of footnotes and DOZENS of unanswered questions for Blackwell.

22. Katie sure has been at the koolaid fountain
Shooting off her mouth about how Democrats are lacking in morals. My God, we should all repent. Then she tried to play gotcha with Moore when he stated W was a bumblin stumblin Gilligan. If you think thats bad Katie, you better strap yourself in. He is the unelectable fraud with the stuffed crotch struttin, struttin miserable failure of a pretend president who was installed by some gravy sucking pigs cronies and worshippers of the BFEE.
This * Cult sucks.
I need to catch my breath. :argh:

26. I was going to direct her to some other members here
But I kinda figured it was my chance to shoot her down as well. I just don't like to use some of the nastier appropriate words, not that I can't.
Moore did well, but the show was about Katie, who I used to like, but her moralizing with her studious glasses falling down her nose made her look like a fool. I think she should get away from the koolaid trough and let someone of Moore's caliber speak for the human race.
I had some nasty republicans telling me yesterday that the CBC in the Moore movie was only trying to race bait everyone. Why can't the repubs see this voting situation as important for all. Of course race plays into it if the republicans want to disenfranchise the blacks every time they attempt to participate in democracy. They are only alright to republicans when they go to war for the oil and help blow off some weapons for the military industrial complex.
That's all -got to go to work - you know the b*sh ecconomy - can't make enough to keep up. :freak:

28. Ah well she still believes her Audience
IS the core value people (which is probably true to some extent)

I never watch it, just so happened I was flipping for school cancellations for my daughter, when I saw them mention Moore would be on.

You know being one of the richest news anchor's on TV, she has to be racking in a small nest egg. She benefits from * being in office.

ABC, NBC CNN are trying to win back viewers from the Fox (jerry springers news program), so you will see this attempt to hassle The left hard cores, much more often. They still believe Moral values was the 1 one issues lol.. GRRR

I think it's best i boycott TV, it only pisses me off. I just quit smoking, so today is going to be one of those Straw chewing days. I should waited till have Jan. 20th to quit lol.

and am waiting for the MM interview. They just read the news and mentioned the electoral certification, but NOT the challenge! Arrgh! Gawd! I can't stand watching the today show, it's all I can do not to scream at that repuke Katie! I agree with whoever said she's a Bitch-I think she's a Bitch too!

And another thing-I agree with you DFL-and I have to say that's what I love about this site-that people say what they think freely! I've spent way too much energy and effort posting at a site where you had to mind your ps and qs and where people got offended if you ever expressed yourself honestly-and said anything that wasn't pc. What a bunch of posers! So glad that DU is here!

27. MM's homepage has an open letter to Senators pleading with them to stand
with Conyers this afternoon, at http://www.michaelmoore.com . He refers them to two URLs for reasons why they should object to certifying the vote. One of these URLs is a great summary from independent Columbus journalist Bob Fitrakis, at http://www.freepress.org/departments/display/19/2005/1065 .
