Quiz Show vs. All the President's Men
Last night they were showing All the President's Men on HBO and again I was in awe of the role that investigative journalism played in exposing the dirty tricks of the Nixon administration. There were some brave souls going to bat for the truth against all odds here. It worked and there was a day of reckoning but now investigative journalism is effectively paralyzed since the MSM is controlled by the corporate profit mongers who helped * steal the presidency and made him the hero of 9/11 so when the truth emerged that Gore actually won Florida, it was irrelevant.

So synchronistically in my thinking Quiz Show (now showing on the TRUE channel!) is another great film that inspires a trend of thought about brave souls in the legal profession who can put factual evidence to the test before the judicial branch of this government the same way that investigative journalists put factual evidence to the test before the media to expose the chicanery of the Nixon administration.

The intriguing thing about Quiz Show is that it shows how someone with integrity can actually become a puppet of the profiteers in the entertainment industry because he -- as a "beneficiary" of nepotism -- lacks muscle to enact his family's values. Through the efforts of an attorney who is in love with the truth, it also exposes television as a dangerous intersection of truth and illusion where the news media (and the film industry) now own major real estate. Truth is the most frequent casualty here, since illusion drives the bigger car.

So my thought here is to look to the legal profession for the heroes who can expose the chicanery of the Bush adminstration. If there is any integrity left in our nation, I believe that they can do it. However, the MSM will be working against them. So it is up to us to get the word out, however we can do it. And the internet provides us a very great tool for that.

Would love to have your thoughts and input.

3. Yes, this could be a very good guess!
And also wondering why Kerry said that his army of lawyers did not discover election fraud. Can I still hope that this is still part of the Kerry stealth team tactics?

2. Last night on AMC they showed the movie a "Civil Action"
It was about some big manufacturing giants who dumped their toxic waste on the ground, in the river, and buried it in Woburn MA. A bunch of young children ended up with leukemia. It was so sad to watch - but on the lawyer topic, John Travolta played a the lawyer who went after the companies...

"A CIVIL ACTION, written by Jonathan Harr, won the 1996 National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction and was a finalist for the nonfiction Book of the Year Award. As of February 1999, it has sold 1.5 million copies and has been on the New York Times Best Sellers List for 114 weeks.
Jonathan Harr, the author, was the recipient of the 1997 Environmental Awareness Award from the League of Conservation Voters. The award is made to individuals who incorporate environmental protection into their work and help raise public awareness of envirnmental issues."

In the end of the movie they stated that he was working in NJ (Tom's River) on another environmental case. (this was in 1998 I think.)

4. Reminds me of Silkwood...
I guess the facts also get a hearing when they are crafted into a good vehicle for a prominent actor.

5. I remember a veiled threat by a 527 group...
that they were going to go after "trial lawyers" big-time, with the same voracity as the Swift Boats. I was surprised that this seemed to be so real at the time, but then vanished.

I guess shrub decided to save that attack until the elections were over.

BTW - I love both of those movies!!
(and it's not just because of Robert Redford, although I'll give him a floaty heart just for the hell of it: :loveya: )

Robert! :loveya:
Dustin! :loveya:
Ralph! :loveya:

I wonder if I was being too optimistic, now that I heard Arnebeck dropped his lawsuit? Is this true? If so, it was my last ray of hope!!
