The Nashua Advocate: The Most Savage Editorial/Satire We've Ever Published
But funny, too, in a well-deserved kind of way.

3. Two things from the Post article I think should be questioned:
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 01:59 AM by Carolab
"Mitofsky and Lenski are continuing to examine exit polling in Ohio and Pennsylvania, two critical battleground states where the poll results were off."

Meaning: They are trying to come up with a plausible excuse for these states being so far off the predicted results as well as the exit poll numbers.

<snip>

"Adding to the confusion, programming errors were discovered and corrected in the afternoon of Election Day, and a technical problem severely disrupted access to the system for nearly two hours late on election night."

<snip>

Question: What kind(s) of "programming errors" would produce this kind of result? This experienced pollster doesn't have programmers to test the programs? What explains the "technical problem" that kept the system down for two hours?

12. Still no traction for my idea to re-exit poll Ohio
Could really help the new litigation purportedly starting up there.

13. Am I missing the joke?
What I found at the link were two serious, critical and very accurate assessments by Conyers and Freeman of the deficiencies in Mitofsky's report and the piss-poor article that Russ Baker wrote for Tom Paine. I don't see an editorial or any satire anywhere. Is the link not working for me or do I have to hold my tongue somewhat differently within my cheek?

BTW, I am beginning to believe that Mitofsky provided us the evidence within his own report to refute his one and only theory for the disconnect between the exit polls and the "reported" vote -- "the Repugs aren't talkative" theory -- because he knows the election was stolen and that's the fastest way to show it. I think the table provided by Mitofsky (and graphed by a DUer) which shows essentially no difference in response/refusal rates regardless of the proportion Bush supporters there were in the sampled precincts means we don't have to wait for the data tape to refute that lame-ass theory.

Hell, any one of us who did any canvassing or voter registration in the fall already knew that while Busies aren't very bright, they sure are LOUD and TALKATIVE -- arrogantly so. So thanks, Mitofsky, whether what you did was intentional or not, you sure made our jobs easier. If there was ever a report that he wanted rebuked, it is probably this one (because this was his least predictive election performance of his professional career).

As for Russ Baker, I had already written TomPaine to tell them what a crock of shit article Baker had written as soon as I read it. (I wonder if that's even his real name or a lame attempt to sound like "Russell Baker"). But my letter pales in comparison with Dr. Freeman's. By the way, if we could set up a People's Choice Awards category for "person most likely to help save our democracy", Freeman has my nomination and my vote. And I plan to tell him so tomorrow. But the black-eyed peas and cornbread are almost done, so not just yet.
