I thought this was going to be a bad day...
I avoided the t.v. and listened to AAR today (BTW, I am not a huge Franken fan, but the man was ON IT today)

Emboldened, I decided to watch C-Span. Well, then I switched to all the other networks. I could not believe my eyes. Where were the huge * crowds? On no station were the cheers louder than the boos. It was thrilling. Every commentator (with the exception of Mr. Hardball) was telling it like it was.

Even Faux News got zinged on the ostentacious celebration by someone from VANITY FAIR. This is amazing. It is such a GOOD DAY!!!!

Thank you, protestors for making your presence known, thank you news networks (especially Peter Jennings for his perspective on the security), thank you Will Pitt for your great commentary. Thank you * supporters, for showing the world a fine example of a "sparse crowd" Thank you SS, for letting us hear your insightful comments. Thank you, America. I think you have spoken loud and clear.

Yes, it is a good day.

43. Alas, I have no digital camera
I know there were people from DU there today. Maybe they got some pix.

How did your protest go? We were nearly kicked off the BankOne square, but they called the cops who confirmed our right to be there. Everyone was peaceful, but there were apparently some RWers who tried to cause trouble. I didn't see them though. Lots of people honking and waving. I only had one sheeple try to tell me I should just support "the President" and I told her I couldn't support a war criminal. She didn't argue. I think someone planted the original idea in her head anyway.

51. My son forgot the camera!!
But from what I understand, the FBI was there taking plenty of photos. I wonder if they'll post them for us! :)

The March was GREAT!! Of course our media downplayed it, but there was plenty of media there. It's a start I guess.

3 people got arrested. One for trying to leave the March "area"(????!!!??) and I'm not sure about the other two. The whole thing was very loud, but very clean.

My family was wearing black and my two dogs had black bandanas. My husband looks like a line-backer (6' 6", 280lbs) and was wearing his black "Girlie Man" t-shirt. It was great!

I hope to see pics soon from some other events!

Peace!!

18. Like every oath he has taken,
he will break this one. And the American people will break his tyranny. He has to be truly frightened after today. Though I doubt he heard the constant loud booing through the bulletproof glass, I'm pretty sure he saw the thousands of anti Bushit signs along the route. This should be a wake up call. It won't be, but I'll bet he's too nervous to perform in the sack with Mrs. Stepford tonight.

35. I wonder if
the order for the performers not to look directly into Bush's eyes, is perhaps, not so much a desire to express "uber" dominance and contempt for the citizenry as a deep-seated fear.

I saw an amazing interview on the box here, in which Rumsfeldt and a BBC man were in front of an assembled group of journalists, with his nibs fielding their questions.

Well, I could never have imagined or imagine even now feeling sorry for R under just about any circumstance, but I swear I really did then. I can only assume the whole room full of journalists were looking daggers of sheer hatred at him, because he seemed just incapable of lifting his eyes from the floor in front of him. And he looked so tiny! Really small. I know a lot of BBC types and journos are very tall, and I'm only 5'7", but he looked tiny, so I imagine most shots of him are carefully angled to make him look bigger.

The only explanation I could think of was the incandescent fury our journalists must have felt at that American tank shelling the hotel, in which they knew there were "un-bedded" journalists. Who, I believe, died in the attack. Maybe * didn't want his day further spoiled by seeing their eyes boring into him.

26. BULL%^T......WHAT A JOKE
This pisses me off, if I didn't live in Arizona I would have
been out there.

ONLY 500 FREAKING PEOPLE??????? 500??? Thats how many
protestors the AP is crediting.........the silver-haired lady,
the leader of Code Pink, said that they had 1000 out there,
amongst Code Pink, ANSWER and a bunch of other fringe groups...
that sucks!

what kind of f%6king protest is that????? Wasn't there
supposed to be like 500,000 people out there???????

Its just funny to me how they talked so much about doing this
big thing, but everywhere I go, its business as usual. I
manage a supermarket and one guy walked up to me and told me
he was doing 3 times his usually groceries to make up for the
what he called "Commie boycott."

Man.......we suck at planning, until people get together
more, the Freakers will always have the upper hand, I'm sorry,
I'm just really disappointed right now........damnit!

Bad day for many reasons

1. Scalia is ready to ascend to Chief Justice.
2. New conservative judge replacing him.
3. Daschle's gone.
4. Donkey Kong got inagurated
5. Protestors bitched out.
6. The stupid Senate has been letting the
Repukes have their way, EVERYWAY....its like

And keep in mind that this is the 7th or 8th of this thread because they get so big it takes too long to load them. And also understand that a lot of us have been in this board on some REALLLLLYYYY bad days, and many of us have decided that it feels a lot better to be happy for the small triumphs and to keep working our asses off than it does to feel depressed and miserable. So stick around and cheer the hell up, would ya? And welcome to DU! :hi:

37. You know what I thought as I watched (and heard)?
"It's gonna be an interesting four years."

Not fun, because undoubtedly many, many more innocents will die.

But because I know I'm not alone. They know we're not some crazy little fringe group. And when I heard * citing the Qu'ran, I just about peed my pants--I could *see* the looks on the fundies' faces. And because I think eventually America will wake up.

It'll be an icky four years, but we're are gonna have some REALLY good moments ahead.

41. me, too
F**K, I dread this day. But, I got my slacker ass downtown, twice traversed security, watched the stormtroopers assemble, and watched the pathetic shrub drive past.

Foremost thought in my mind after the thief drove past: the security was a COMPLETE waste, because the bastards fear US, America, normal citizens!!! bushco are a bunch of spineless trolls.

I appreciated standing in the company of DC teachers, out-of-town folks waiting to catch a train out of DC, "stereotypical" protestors...

There were very small cliques of "four more years" shouters, but they were definitely insignificant in comparison to us, the people.

So, a reassuring day for me, the paranoid pessimist. Still have to get my ass outta DC... thanks everyone for the peaceful protest today.

at 12th and Pennsylvania Ave. we outnumbered the supporters about 60/40 maybe more. There was much tension and just a little scuffle that ended quickly. I was surprised because the cops seemed to really be threatening with their clubs and the looks on their faces. It was a good day!

45. I coped okay, too. Of course I still did NOT watch Shrub's speech
...OR most of the gala, but I watched the D.C. Rally on CSPAN, and that energized me. And of course news via DU.

Locally, the rally in West L.A. had quite a large turn-out, and since the weather was cooperative, there appeared to be over 1,000 people! It lasted about 4+ hours...and there were still about 100 people there when I drove by at 9:30 pm! The feedback from the six lanes of traffic which passed by the rally seemed overwhelmingly favorable (about 70%+ anti-Shrub/anti-War). Never saw anything THAT "supported" by most people. And there were media trucks there from all the major networks.

Not a bad day, though I[m still in denial that Shrub is actually President again. But I'll take that a day at a time.

46. MSN in Australia.....
mentioned 4 cops for one of the crowd lining the streets, and showed storm troopers spraying the crowd with pepper spray.

The comment from the reader refered to the history of 2nd termers running into trouble mentioning Bush, Iran-Contra, Watergatre and of course Clintons Monica problems in the same breath with a we'll just have to wait and see.

Bush looked like he was in Triumph of the will.

Good on you all..... your message got through today with impeach Bush banners visibly seen.
