1. WAR on Christmas: X-mas Tree victim of drive by shooting

X-mas Tree victim of drive by shooting

By ERIC LICHTBLAU and JAMES RISEN

The most heinious of acts occured today as Bob Marley carried his newly purchased Chritmas tree from his car to his house. His tree was severly injured as Christmas terrorists shot 17 times at the tree, hitting it with nine bullets.

Mr Marley said the Christmas terrorists drove away in a Chevrolet Pick up truck that had an American flag attached to the back, and a Bush Cheney '04 bumper sticker on the rear bumper.

2. Yes Virginia, there's a problem with absentee balloting.

In the closest statewide election in Virginia's modern history, a state Court has supervised, and certified, a so-called "recount" of the race for Attorney General.
Did the voting machine in your county tally your ballot
— or did it count you out?

3. Virginia Recount Verifies Win

Virginia Recount Verifies Win
From Associated Press

RICHMOND, Va. — A recount Wednesday upheld Republican Bob McDonnell's narrow victory for attorney general in the closest statewide election in modern Virginia history.

McDonnell gained 37 votes in the statewide recount.

The final vote, certified Wednesday night by a three-judge panel of the Richmond Circuit Court, was 970,981 for McDonnell and 970,621 for Democrat Creigh Deeds, a 360-vote margin.

Deeds had demanded the recount after the State Board of Elections certified McDonnell the winner of the Nov. 8 election.

"I don't have any regrets," Deeds said after learning the results. "The whole experience of campaigning for statewide office has been humbling and gratifying for me."

4. Republican Sen. Bill Mims to oversee attorney general's office

Republican Sen. Bill Mims
to oversee Attorney General's office

RICHMOND, Va. Republican Bob McDonnell stepped into his role as newly elected Virginia attorney general today by announcing his first appointment -- naming Loudoun Senator Bill Mims chief deputy attorney general.

Mims will oversee a staff of roughly 280 and manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Attorney General. He replaces Bernard McNamee, who will return to private practice.

The G-O-P senator will announce next week when he'll leave the House of Delegates. He officially begins his new position on January 14th, when McDonnell is sworn in.

The forty-eight-year-old Mims is a Harrisonburg native and an alumnus of the College of William and Mary. He is a practicing attorney with the Leesburg firm of Mims, Atwill and Leigh.

Three Richmond lawyers vie to be eastern Va. U.S. attorney

BY PETER HARDIN
TIMES-DISPATCH WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT Dec 23, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Three prominent Richmond-area lawyers are on a list of five candidates recommended by Virginia's senators to President Bush to serve as the next U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The three are Stephen E. Baril, who ran for the Republican nomination for state attorney general and lost to Robert F. McDonnell, the man who ultimately won the election on a recount; Lewis F. Powell III, son of the late Supreme Court justice; and Howard C. "Toby" Vick Jr., a former Henrico County commonwealth's attorney.

Also recommended yesterday were U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg of the Southern District of Texas and U.S. Attorney Edward E. McNally of the Southern District of Illinois.

7. Scotland---Santa gets stuck in Chimney -- will he make it to the Americas?

THE NIGHT SANTA CLAUS GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY

'Tis the night before Christmas and time for a magical story from Bob Shields to share with all the family. We promise it will help to get the kids tucked up in bed! Here's the tale of how Santa got trapped in a Scottish cottage and how two children saved the day
Bob Shields
IT WAS the night before Christmas... and Santa Claus was pacing nervously up and down the wooden floor of his house at the North Pole. "I wish you would stop worrying," said Mrs Claus, who was stirring a pot of hot soup over a roaring log fire.

"Every Christmas Eve you worry that something will go wrong - and every Christmas morning you come home and tell me everything went just fine."

"I know... but I can't help it," said Santa, shaking his head and stroking his long, white beard. "But this year I'm worrying more than ever."

He peered down at his watch. Then he peeked out the curtains to see a bright, white moon shining down on the crisp, white snow.

CA Sec. of State Threatened Decertification for ES&S After Failures in Recent Election!

Letter from SoS to Voting Machine Co. Warns of Numerous Problems Discovered on Touch-Screen, Optical Scan Machines!
State Senator Outraged, Comments to BRAD BLOG, Calls for Full Release of Information by State!...And Releases Statement on Related Matters...

Holy cow...perhaps this explains why California Sec. of State Bruce McPherson suddenly started turning inexplicably back to Diebold some time around mid-November of this year after having decertified them already back in 2004, and then finding them to have failed massively in a recent mock election test over the summer.

"Information about problems with voting machines should not have been delayed long enough to become a lump of coal in California's Christmas stocking," half-joked State Senator Debra Bowen to The BRAD BLOG upon reading the following astounding new story.

AP's Juliet Williams reports today on a letter written by McPherson's office to voting machine vendor, Election Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S) after the recent Special Election here on Nov. 8th. The letter documents a number of very serious problems discovered on ES&S voting equipment during the election. Apparently the SoS threatened ES&S with decertification in the bargain, similar to the one Diebold faced in the state back in 2004 under the previous Sec. of State Kevin Shelley...
