A Zealous Soldier in Election Reform Battles

Nearly a quarter of Americans who voted in 2004 used an electronic ballot, almost doubling the percentage from the 2002 election, according to political consulting firm Election Data Services.

But a September report from the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress, pointed to security and reliability problems long the subject of complaints from computer scientists and security experts.

A separate review of voting machine logs used in Palm Beach County in the 2002 election revealed thousands of errors - just two years after it was forced to manually recount votes.

Sancho wants to make sure such problems don't happen in Leon County."

The AP is mainstream, right? The story is laid out pretty well here. For the first time by the AP, as I recall.

Folks, the reform is finally mainstream. Are you ready for the ride?

1. Ready. Reuters did an article on my suit last year. Never hit the wire
apparently.

Lexis Nexis search on "secret vote counting" gets 3 hits, only one of them meaningful for our purposes. Alas, it's my letter to MOther Jones in response to the Hertsgaard article. I'm not the first I don't think by any stretch to use this phrase but according to the MSM, I am.

2. Yeah, we know you're ready
Heck, you've got a ticket already!

Well, it's gaining steam
And the things on a roll.
Its coming down the tracks
Fueled by citizen attacks.

Shark, I like your "secret vote counting" phrase. I would add, and often do, add the words "private companies" to your phrase: Secret Vote Counting by Private Companies.

3. Don't forget "Defenders of Democracy" or Sentinels, or Guardians...
asking yourself if your elections officials and vendors act like defenders of democracy is a clarifying question, shall we say. See the new Miami Herald link in ER at
