19. OOPs, have to object here a bit to this logic
speaking as a finnish american married to an actual finn, it's doubtful. Americans are top notch, but finns are truly the creme de la creme of the world you know. Hey it's the northernmost country in the world in terms of average latitude, and if you don't keep your brain moving at all times, it freezes.

4. Al asking about McP saying he wouldn't certify till after testing
Debra said none of us get to see the results from ITA testing.
Al said that alone would make him suspicious.
Debra: talking about all the "anomolies" with how McP dealt with recertification.

18. True. "[N]one of us [nationwide] get to see the results from ITA testing"

However, the ITA review of Diebold's software done for CA recently, is here.

6. Debra talking about voter registration database 43% failure rate
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 12:49 PM by Amaryllis
Al saying this is shocking; is the media covering?
Debra said brief article by LA TImes, Chronicle picked it up this am but it's hard to explain because of technical issues; she is giving Al the example of how if his driver's license has a different name than his voter reg he will be kicked off.
Al is being stupid and asking her to guess his middle name.
Referring to Saturday Night Live. (Wish he'd just let her talk instead of taking up time being cute. ) Debra said this is so important that instead of watching popular culture she reads ITA reports...

7. I love how she opened the interview:
Al: ...and you're running for Secretary of State...

Debra: I'm running for two reasons--Florida and Ohio.

Wow, she is fast!

What a great opening line!

End of interview: Al chides her for not knowing a Saturday Night Live character that he is imitating, and says she's not up on American culture, and she says, no, she spends her Saturday nights reading technical reports on electronic voting machine tests!!!!

-------------

Oh, Al, you are such a fat-brained idiot!

-------------

The audience was with HER, not him. And after that last comeback, he quickly said goodbye and got her off the air.

She came across as a calm, polite, likable and brilliant public servant. He came across as an asshole--with a short attention span.

Okay, let ME calm down a bit.

1. Al had her on his show--a very positive development. 2. He introduced her with the statement that the issue that he is most pestered about, in audiences around the country, is DIEBOLD--quite an admission from someone who has helped cover up the terrible scandal of Bushite corporations now controlling the tabulation of our votes with 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code. 3. He didn't start muddling the interview until the end--so she was able to clearly get across that the issue is SECRECY, and the INSECURITY of the machines, and that Schwarz appointee McPherson is a sneaky, lying SOB (not her words). 4. She reminded everyone that former Sec of State Kevin Shelley DECERTIFIED Diebold for LYING to him, and they haven't stopped lying. 5. She was able to explain about the Hursti hacking test. And, a biggie, 6. She got across that there are ALTERNATIVES--why trust these hackable machines, from secretive, lying corporations, when we don't have to?

------------------

All in all, I'd say that was a triumph for the election reform movement--and a big milestone in public education on this Priority One issue.

Kudos to you , DEBRA BOWEN! For who you are, for what you've done to save our election system and our democracy, for this interview, and for being a true hero and patriot of American Revolution II!

21. I'd say it's very encouraging that
1. The number one issue he is asked about is e-voting
2. He actually SAID this

Now, doesn't this tell him something that this is the number one issue he is asked about? Or are all these people asking him about this just conspiracy theorists?

8. Amaryllis, do you know anything about AAR archives, or how to clip out
this part of the show and make it available?

I'm thinking that the interview needs to be posted, with a thread title like, "Most Important Radio Interview in American History."

What about a transcript? Or maybe Bowen's people recorded it. I'm not technical, but I sure think this needs to be featured and brought to the attention of DU--both because it was a great interview, and because of the milestone of this all important issue being on the Al Franken Show which has avoided the topic until now.

This is so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o important!

9. franken is repeated at night. I missed it today. I will record it
and make it available.

This could be the break we've been waiting for. Franken has been a big disappointment in ER. If he wakes up to the facts, watch out.

how did the interview go?

10. The interview went extemely well. Debra Bowen is brilliant and fast on
her feet. We couldn't have a better advocate for election reform, in a position to DO something about it. Al was just his muddle-headed, unfunny ol' self. She cut through him like a laser beam. She is great!

Don't get my post above wrong. I'm just terribly, terribly attuned to this issue, and know so much about it, that I COULDN'T STAND hearing 10 seconds, 20 seconds go by on some stupid Al Franken joke. Bowen handled him extremely well--and was VERY CLEAR and VERY STRONG on the issues, and also very likable. She has a lovely, friendly voice and manner--while saying the most devastating things (re Diebold, McPherson & Co.). A winner!
