Busby verses Bilbray - what a difference 2 days make
It gets weirder. Can anyone explain why the votes decreased over time?

I realize that on June 7 that was not the final official version, but wow...

On June 7, semi final official canvass:
Bilbray - 60,319
Busby - 55,587

On Jun 9:
Bilbray - 34,417
Busby - 43,517

5. The special election was to fill the seat until the November elections
When there is a house seat empty, special elections are created to fill the empty seat - sometimes setup when the primary or some other non-November election is done.

This special election for the house seat does NOT mean that the candidate then doesn't have to run again during the regularly scheduled election for US house seat which is every 2 years on even number years.

June 6th happened to also be primary day in California which means that all 50+ US House seats in California was having primaries including CA-50. It just happens that it was also the day scheduled for the special election to fill the time left for the seat vacated by Cunningham in CA-50.

If I'm correct, Busby and Bilbray both ran unopposed in their primaries so it wasn't really that important for anyone to actually vote for them in the primaries since both of these candidates will run again for the same house seat in November 2006.

So the only question I have will be if repukes will once again spend $100/vote to help their guy win again?

3. 2 different elections
There were 2 elections at the same time. One was a special election to complete the time left on Cunningham's term. Bilbray won this one. The other was a primary for the candidates who will run in November. Busby received more votes because she had less primary opposition. Very confusing.

4. Methinks...
...there were two different elections.

One, the special election to fill the remaining term of the prisoner.

Second, the primary election of a democrat and a republican for the full two year term in November.

The primary would be the smaller totals, and the special would be the greater.
