Letter From America

Letter From America

(Dedicated to the Memory of Alistair Cooke)

Lee Roberts

2006-06-11 07:59 (KST)

The other big political question that hovers in the air but seldom makes a landing, is whether America will ever again have an open election, or whether 2006 will see the consolidation of Black Box vote theft. The most interesting thing about this issue is that those who stand most to lose by computerized vote theft, the Democrats, seem to have least to say on the matter. No major Democrat candidate for the Presidency in 2008, with the possible exception of Russ Feingold, (the only consistent liberal left in the Senate) mentions the problem. Somehow, the topic is taboo. You don't talk about it. You just get ready to concede defeat. In a few odd corners of the country, groups of activists test Diebold voting machines and expose how readily hackable they are. A handful of liberal blogs and one or two progressive radio talk-show hosts, including Robert Kennedy Junior, strive to educate the electorate about the dangers of their votes being stolen in November. Their warnings fall on deaf ears. Most Americans won't vote anyway, so it doesn't really matter. And those who will, don't have much to vote about. No one really seems to expect much change. That is how it's become. When a President can dispense with the constitution, and there is no one on the streets protesting, why should a mid-term election make any difference. America is asleep, while dark forces are plotting to remove democracy from the Republic.

1. A fair statement of the problem...
Now, how about a solution?

2. Well maybe just maybe
we need to fiercely maintain internet freedom. It has become the "public square" or perhaps it's a triangle.

We need to discredit the totally bogus media and expose the extreme election fraud so that common sense, and the will of the people can once again prevail.

That would be a humble start.

5. I have been writing letters and signing petitions, as well
as making phone calls, in that battle. The problem, a major problem, is that, to a hyena, the only animals of importance are hyenas. The herd of zebras (us) is only of value as food or service and is not to be considered in matters of policy or needs.
We are consumed with the obvious (to us) needs and concerns of our fellows, while the thugs are simply concerned with power and wealth. It is not an equal fight, on a one to one basis: we have to overwhelm them with numbers, the rule of law, accurate framing, stealth, humor and trickery.

I would like to see a lot more camouflage, as well. There are far too many radical r/w zealots running as liberals when we know damn well that they smell like hyenas.

3. what does this paragraph tell us? . . .

I've split the graph up for easier reading . . .

"The most interesting thing about this issue is that those who stand most to lose by computerized vote theft, the Democrats, seem to have least to say on the matter.

No major Democrat candidate for the Presidency in 2008, with the possible exception of Russ Feingold, (the only consistent liberal left in the Senate) mentions the problem. Somehow, the topic is taboo.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

this is what it tells me . . .

what we need is someone different, someone out of the political ordinary . . . someone honest, intelligent, compassionate, statesmanlike, visionary . . . someone who can inspire, someone who can lead . . . someone who will demonstrate inspiration and leadership by 1) telling the truth, 2) exposing the secrets, and 3)accepting not one single penny of corporate money . . .

the only thing that will get people to the polls in massive numbers is something radically different from business as usual . . . someONE radically different . . . someone they feel they can trust -- someone they'd be willing to follow . . .

once we find this illusive candidate, we (unfortunately) will have to sell him or her to American voters -- because that's how it's done in 21st century America . . . we'll need to call on the best and the brightest to help formulate position papers and design a marketing campaign that will nullify the multi-billion dollar negative campaign that will most assuredly be mounted by the opposition . . .

will any of this happen? . . . not real likely . . .

but it should . . .

4. We need to really organize ourselves.
Orchestrate the biggest Democratic turnout a midterm election has ever seen.

Alot of people sleep through midterms. Many citizens only bother to vote during the Presdential elections.

We need to hold local meetings. Go to rallys.

Fill out your voter registration early. In fact host a local Dem registration drive, and remind people that certain supposedly neutral registration drives were discarding or destroying Dem registration forms in 04.

Volunteer for campaigns, and most importantly, go Vote in November and drag as many of your friends along with you. Leave any repub friends at home of course. In fact, don't even remind them there is an election this year.

Find out where your polling place is in advance, and find out what kind of machines there using. If they've got Diebold non-paper trail devices, get an absentee ballot. If they've got a machine that makes a paper trail.. double check the paper to make sure your vote was recorded properly.

Try and get everyone in your polling area who votes Democratic to wear some kind of Dem T shirt, so that local camera crews can't help but document the large Dem turnout. A stolen election is a lot harder to ignore when you've seen footage of a clear Dem majority in line at the polls.

That's all the ideas I have for now.

6. Most Americans won't vote anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
To me that is the key part of the above statement. One of the greatest contributory factors to the rise of the Nazi Party in the early thirties was low voter turnout - their supporters did vote and apathy amongst others gave them the results they needed.

I am not in a position to influence events your side but I must say that getting a high turnout from Democrats may be the best possible defence against a possibly appalling future.
