Stop/Punish Blackwell/Educate about Stolen Election '04 flyer needs input
Any suggestions welcomed, especially as to the bottom 2 quotes. If anyone has seen better SUCCINCT quotes regarding Blackwell such as an RFK quote from the RS article.

1. What's the source
for the "likely Kerry voters" in quotes at the top? If you don't have one, I suggest ommitting the quotes.

2. Thanks, I'm not that good at my punctuation rules. I noticed the Conyers
quote had single quotes around 'Re-elect Bush'

4. Have you read this:
http://www.tompaine.com/articles/2005/07/21/timing_and_turnout_in_ohio.php

It's not specific about Blackwell, and cautious about intent, but, IMO, all the more devastating for that. It might come in handy.

3. a succinct 1 page note
I like the idea, a pdf file for ohio that any person could
print off and distribute that tells the real-story of this lowlife
blackwell. Then the inspired can take the leaflets around
mailboxes and whatnot.

I would focus a title more like: "make sure blackwell does not spoil your vote in 2006"
and inform voters on how to make sure their votes count.

5. I'm trying to stick to one thing, your suggestion is great for a voter
education flyer that uses Blackwell as a posterboy and further smears him.

These flyers are for barber shops, beauty parlors, bus stops and small businesses in minority neighborhoods. We have to increase turn out and IMHO hate is a powerful motivator to go to the polls in a midterm typically low turnout election.

First they need to despise him, then they need to know how to subvert his suppression aimed at low income urban voters. We also need to educate OH felons about their voting rights. It is a very common misconception that OH former felons cannot vote. Again barber and beauty shops should be where we educate most effectively.

This is why the GOP is hoping to boost turnout with gay hate among the religoud right.

6.  the flyer should be targeted to the audience it will go to
for African Americans: his targeting of black voters or his speech to militant right wing
group (last winter) that had "klan type" people in the audience (brad blog might have the details)

to Republicans: he used to be a liberal dem or his owning diebold stock then selecting
diebold

to college students: Pix of the long lines of students @ Kenyon College

to 75% of Christians and 100% of Jews or Islamics his ties to "end timing
fleece the flock con artists" aka Rev. Rod Parsley .... he is crazy or playing to the nuts

to the business community: Killing ohio educational and econ base will hurt their
bottom line.

to Unions: say good bye to your union protection

to women: Raped on incest you will have to have the Baby.

8. not to hijack
but I can't help thinking that the RS article works to Blackwell's advantage. That's exactly what worries me about it.

10. Ian Ianaba" excellent film "American Blackout" will be shown heavily in OH
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 01:41 PM by mod mom
this summer. It discusses the disenfranchisement of African Americans in FL in 2000, Georgia in '02 and OH in 2004. It really puts Blackwell in a bad light. There is already an organized movement to get showings in inner city areas and hopefully target predominately Black churches. When I previewed this film the director and Rep Cynthia McKinney were in attendance. There was a perios of discussion after the fim. I ope this discussion will be used in all showings. (ps Rosebud, your flyers will be effective to post viewing individuals, although again, I worry that move Ohioans might not recognize Blackwell's photo, since many just don't pay attention, and it might be taken the wrong way)

Febble, I don't see how the Rolling Stone article could possibly favor Blackwell.

BTW, the director was also the director of Eminem's "Mosh" (a little trivia)

11. Because

it presents the exit poll story upfront, and a decent study of the exit poll evidence in Ohio by ESI concluded that the exit poll discrepancy in Ohio was unlikely to be due to fraud. I know Baiman and Dopp have disputed this, but ESI's study is likely to have more credibility (and the Baiman Dopp study has such serious flaws, IMO, that it is unlikely to be taken seriously even if they happen to be correct).

So if you shake RS at Blackwell, all he has to do is shake ESI back.

If you want some better stuff, try this, although again, the exit poll stuff is a bit dodgy, as the whole thing dates from before the exit poll data analyses were done. In fact the whole thing is a bit dated, but it's an excellent compendium, nonetheless.

http://www.ajschuler.com/armandoschallenge.pdf

The reason I got so cross about the RFK piece is precisely because I could see it being a potential gift to Blackwell. It would have been better if the exit poll part hadn't been labelled number 1, but it is way the weakest part of the piece, and I'm not the only person saying so. You may not approve of Mystery Pollster, but he has been running a series on the RFK piece, and I happen to know that one of his nightmares is that Blackwell should get away with thinking that the case against him falls just because the exit poll part is so flawed.

http://mysterypollster.typepad.com/

There are plenty of people who would gladly see Blackwell in jail who were aghast at the RFK piece simply because of its mathematical flaws in the exit poll part.

http://scienceblogs.com/goodmath/2006/06/election_fraud_or_just_bad_mat.php

My two cents. Get the man out.

edit: sorry meant to reply to rosebud.

14. I going to stick with the Conyers & Moses quotes then...
Not sure if Moses of Texas Civil Rights Review is black or white, I got no images when I googled his name.

The money quote is Thurgood Marshall's anyway.

13. They will recognize Bush and tieing Blackwell to the word Republican
and blaming Blackwell for a president that only a single digit percentage of African Americans approve of is good strategy. I always seek to use the most unflattering or smarmy expressioned photos and Blackwell's giant bloated head in contrast with the quote from Conyers regarding "head big enough" is funny.

16. Here's a Jesse Jackson quote from Newsweek
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6770193/site/newsweek/

"...Blackwell may have had to deliver for Bush and Cheney and he got a lighter rap than Harris got. But Ohio may have been more stacked than Florida was."

For succinct, you could use only the final sentence, "...Ohio may have been more stacked than Florida was."

17. I grocery shop in the ghetto so I am in the minority, and I'm always
canvassing so...

The produce manager an African American (you have to remember Blackwell is from Cincinnati, so they do talk about him in Cincinnati) told me he heard that George Walker Bush called Blackwell and said if he delivered Ohio, Blackwell was guaranteed governor. That means that is the word on the street in Avondale, Madisonville, Bond Hill, Kennedy Heights etc.
