Yahoo's Got Brad: No Confidence in the Busby/Bilbray Election

Brad Friedman: No Confidence in the Busby/Bilbray Election

Take Your Democracy Back!

Brad Friedman

Jun 16, 2006

I don't know how else to put it, but every voting machine used in last week's special election run-off for the U.S. House seat vacated by the disgraced Randy "Duke" Cunningham in California's 50th congressional district was illegal. By federal standards, rules and provisions and by California state rules, laws and provisions. And now, by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters own admission.

TO REVIEW: The election was run on highly hackable Diebold voting machines that were sent home overnight and unsecurely with poll workers for days prior to the election which rendered the machines both illegal and uncertified for use in the election under both federal and state laws, requirements and statutes. The GOP has since rushed to swear-in Bilbray before the votes were counted, or the election even certified by the state of California.

snip

As to the Busby/Bilbray election...So far, PDA has declared "No Confidence" in the race. Tribune Media columnist Robert Koehler has declared "No Confidence" in the race. VelvetRevolution.us has declared "No Confidence" in the race. And VoteTrustUSA has declared "egregious violations" took place in the race.

So who actually won the race? At this time, there is no way to know. Not until the ballots are counted.

22. I know... pointing out the obvious here....
"The only way to earn a Medal of Freedom under this administration is to lie, obfuscate, point fingers, kowtow, admit error, bully, berate, circumvent, idealize, worship, and generally fellate the CiC."

Under these circumstances, the next person to win the Medal of Freedom will be Karl Rove... and just in time I'm sure.

This is a bellwether election for security concerns as they relate to the midterms.

when every democrat who loses an election does so because of "fradulent" voting machines.

17. So, what is Busby DOING? Is she DEMANDING a hand count?

Where is the DNC? Are they coming out in outrage?

What actions can we take?

Any ideas?

WE CAN NOT LET THIS GO BY!!!!!!

First, we need to find out, if Busby is challenging this election (as she has the RESPONSIBILITY to do).

Then, we need to call the DNC and make this a NATIONAL issue.

E-mail ALL of your friends and contacts with the above story. And, tell them to call the DNC.

I can't find anything on Busby, and what she is doing. Anyone?

21. Well we tried to keep Diebold out of cali!
It didn't work thanks to Arnold and his new secretary of state Bruce McPherson!

The problem is! How do we recount made up votes on a machine?
The answer is...We can't, there is no possible way to recount a diebold voting machine, thats the beauty of em. There are no ballots!

Well we cried and posted and wrote and tried everything possible under the sun to stop the GOP Electronic voting Scam, and all its done is grow even more.

Now its starting in California the largest state with the most electoral votes, can you see where this will end up?

Its ok cause it already ended up....Democracy is Dead in America!

23. Ok, so what.
The voter turnout statewide was anemic at best. Even if the county registrar did something that should not have been done, Bilbray does not have to give up his seat unless it can be shown that he personally did it. When it is all said and done, there will be another election in November and Bilbray will be running as the incumbent.

Should the election be certified, probably not. Will Bilbray be in D.C. casting votes until something different happens, probably. Unless the seat remains unfilled until democracy actually happens, it does not matter. Until Art Torrez gets off his ass and moves on this, who cares. Until the DNC calls for an investigation who cares. As long as we have people like Sen. Schumer willing to send money to the campaign of Joe Lieberman, if he runs as an independent who cares. As long as people like Rep. Rahm Emanuel say things like Howard Dean does not speak for me on issues of the war etc... who cares. Yes I am in a bit of a mood today!

26. Busby's Statement
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 02:48 AM by Apollo11
Concession and Recount

We’ve heard from many of our supporters and your followers who have called to express their concerns about the voting procedures and expressed an interest in pursuing a recount. We have listened to your concerns and want to assure you that we have taken every precaution to closely monitor the vote count.

On election night and for several days following the election, observers from both parties from Washington D.C as well as local monitors have been carefully observing the counting of ballots. In addition, the San Diego County party had 500 observers and a team of attorneys in the field, and observers stationed at the Registrar of Voters, dedicated to insuring a fair election and accountability.

While there were a few reports of malfunctioning scanning machines, there was not widespread reporting of problems on Election Day. All absentee, provisional and damaged ballots were accounted for and are continuing to being counted.

I conceded as part of my statement following election night because the margin of difference was beyond the amount to trigger an automatic recount. Should the Secretary of State find reason to certify me as the winner, I would be declared the winner despite my original concession statement.

Though we are all disappointed about the results of the election, we can be proud of the fact that we garnered over 45% of the vote despite $5 million in relentless negative assaults, and we kept Bilbray under 50% in a district that should have been theirs for free. This was a huge victory in itself. With your continued support, we will keep up the pressure through November.

25. Let's get this on top of Howard Dean's in-tray
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 02:43 AM by Apollo11
I don't have Dean's personal e-mail address, but there's this page on the DNC website where you can send messages ...

http://www.democrats.org/page/petition/chairman

If you start "Dear Chairman Dean," then hopefully at least his staff will see it.

If they get lots of messages on the same topic - they will have to look into it.
