<> 6:00 pm CST -- HEADLINES

<> ~ 6:15 pm CST -- BRAD FRIEDMAN on verifiable elections

Brad Friedman is one of the nation's most intrepid citizen journalists/activists in the field of election reform. He is also the co-founder of VelvetRevolution.us, an umbrella organization of citizens groups taking on everything from election reform to media reform to the war in Iraq. He blogs and broadcasts from Los Angeles. Brad visited Crawford, Texas in August last year where he broadcast 50 hours of live radio from Camp Casey.

Monitor co-host Pokey Anderson will talk with Brad to get updates on the latest developments in the continuing story of citizens attempting to get transparent, recountable elections. Lawsuits have broken out in numerous states, including a new one in Texas demanding verifiable elections under the state constitution.

A new article appeared this month which seemed to crack the invisible wall which has been thwarting much serious national media coverage of election problems. That article, available online, was researched for four months by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and a Rolling Stone editor, and lays out in great, documented detail what happened in Ohio in the 2004 election. (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10432334/was_the_2004_election_stolen )

Brad has been closely following a San Diego special election for US Congress, to replace the imprisoned Congressman Duke Cunningham. (Cunningham resigned after pleading guilty; he basically sold his influence and the US Treasury to defense lobbyists.)

In that current race for an open US House seat, Republican Brian Bilbray edged past Democrat Francine Busby. Or, did he? Brad notes that the voting equipment, made by Diebold, spent one or more nights at the homes of election clerks before election day, in what he calls "sleepovers." Whether or not any bodily fluids were exchanged in the voting machine sleepovers, recent supervised hack demonstrations on Diebold electronic voting equipment and optical scan equipment in Utah and Florida show that it only takes a few minutes access by someone with moderate knowledge to completely and thoroughly hack the equipment. So, is the current election legal? Acceptable? Verifiable? Do we know who won?
