At Anti-Gay Rally in NYC Rev. Calls Gay People 'Worthy of Death'
Several thousand people rallied in the Bronx, New York yesterday against the impending push to legalize same-sex marriage. Organizers, including state Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz, several Spanish radio stations and churches, argued that marriage should be defined as a union between “one man and one woman” and urged the state government to abandon their effort or put the initiative up to a vote. “Let the people decide. If the people say yes, we’ll shut up,” Diaz said at the steps of the Bronx court house. “Bring it to the people, bring it to the people…look at the people!” he yelled to the crowd of several thousand Hispanic Americans.

--snip--

And while the march and rally focused on the Christian message of “love,” the event remained deeply homophobic, with speakers routinely condemning gay people as “sinners” and describing same-sex relations as something wholly unnatural or perverse. In fact, just minutes before Diaz took to the microphone to stress his respect for gay people, Rev. Ariel Torres Ortega of Radio Visión Cristiana said that the gay people are “worthy of death”:

Just a few more of those "fundamentalists" who are in the minority, right?

1. Religious moderates need to rise up and actively oppose these people....
....instead of just saying, "Well, they don't represent all of us."

Because from where I stand, they sure as hell do represent all of you.

Yes, they are the minority.

6. Is it the minority that also votes against legislation giving gays equal righs?
Maybe I should have used the sarcasm thingy in my OP.

3. You know, these homophobes are very lucky indeed that gay people don't tend to
become bomb-wielding or bullet-spraying or fire-setting terrorists. They've certainly given us just cause to act militantly.

Eventually, though, some gay man or woman is going to snap and take out a lot of people. Mostly I shall be horrified at the deaths, but I'm sure that deep down, a little part of me will say, "Good, they had it coming."

Push a human far enough and we are capable of anything.

EDIT: I really don't know if I'll be horrified at the deaths. I might be at first, but once the facts come out, I just might say they got what they had coming to them.

7. I always find it quite ironic that these events center around the message of "love".

9. Let's do it! But first, let's put it to a vote on whether Hispanics can marry!
Sure, that would probably pass easily, but hey, fair's fair. Let the people put your individual rights to a vote!

10. Small group of people burn a Koran; DU goes nuts.
Several thousand people rally against gays; little attention.

12. I've seen this elsewhere too.
Criticism of Christianity is usually answered by Christians, Catholic specific criticism by Catholics, but criticism of Islam is answered by Christians, Jews, atheists, and agnostics.

It's like everyone has decided that either Islam is such a delicate flower that it needs other people to protect it from speech, or there are no moderate Muslims who can respond without violence.

I'm not really sure which is worse.
