I must be imagining this thread.

When these charlatans give away all their possessions, they may gain some credibility.

Maybe his behavior was normal for this batch of rapturists?

Also, if you believe the world is ending, what should it matter what you do with your possessions or job?

I can find a connection with a different group of people who preach one thing
whilst getting rich from doing the opposite ... and that has nothing to do
with any religion (or lack thereof) but with the nature of the people concerned.

The "smart" (*) thing to do would be to sell your possessions and give the
proceeds to the poor (as directed by the founder of their faith) as this
would surely maximise your chances of hitting the 144,000-person "jackpot".
