Religion, government should not mix
Of all the places for religion to be an issue, one would never believe that it would happen in a session of the Broome County Legislature.

According to a story published July 14 in the Press & Sun-Bulletin, until recently a nondenominational prayer was recited before the start of the monthly sessions. However, that all changed when Legislator Julie Lewis, R-District 6, delivered a Christian prayer. I'm not surprised that this caused concern among several of the legislators. Apparently, Lewis thinks she has the right to be an exception.

1. Religion should've never been politicized.
The original writers of the constitution tried to stress the point with separation of church and state, yet now it is, and there's no turning back.

Our nation, indeed, the whole world is an unholy mess, and you can thank demagogues and dogma for it.

2. Apolitical religion is an oxymoron. Religion is, by defnition, a form of social control.
