Campaign launched to show Muslim service to U.S.
Edited on Fri Sep-09-11 11:34 AM by rug
DETROIT (AP) – The service by American Muslims to Michigan and the rest of the country is the focus of a new billboard and Internet campaign marking the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

Billboards showing American Muslims from various walks of life are going up Wednesday and Thursday in and around Detroit as part the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations' "Remember Through Service" effort.

Executive Director Dawud Walid says the campaign provides "an accurate depiction of how Muslims contribute to the broader society."

A doctor who was a first responder at ground zero on Sept. 11, 2001, a Detroit police officer and assistant school principal are among Muslims featured on the billboards.
