Colbert skewers idiot fundie Rep. Lynn Westmoreland
http://stupidevilbastard.com/index/seb/comments/stephen_colbert_nails_congressman_lynn_westmoreland_on_the_ten_commandments/

From the description:
Republican Congressman Lynn Westmoreland wants to have the Ten Commandments on display in the House of Representatives and the Senate and has cosponsored a bill to make it happen. Stephen asks him about the legislation and then asks him to recite them from memory. Westmoreland gets the three big ones and then can’t recall the rest. It’s a priceless moment that reveals Westmoreland’s hypocrisy perfectly:

1. I saw this yesterday

Colbert played it beautifully, his reaction shots had me cryin'. There was probably a bit of editing and insertions, but it appears he did most of them right in front of Westmoreland! Gawd, he's a subversive, inventive bastard. Y'know, I originally thought he couldn't possibly get much mileage from what's essentially a one-note schtick, but every day he proves me wrong.

On edit: Here's another link to the same video:

Edit, again: Video above isn't the same. It's just the gotcha segment.

3. A one-note schtick?
Hardly. The material is endless.

2. A couple of things really strike me
First, the guy is too stupid to get up and end the interview at the "do nothingest" crack.

Second, the joker's poverty of language is so extreme that he is at risk for developing Alzheimer's. In fact, it looks like he has it now.

This man is the perfect example of a post turtle.

5. This boggles my mind:
Those who are fanatics always say "Oh, a criminal is going to go to rob a licquor store, see a sign saying that it's illegal to carry a gun into the premises, and turn away just because of the sign on the window?" in a sarcastic tone.

Of course, they likely support posting the Ten Commandments far away from where the crimes are committed . . . say the Justice Centers and City Hall and on the flags of the govt. buildings and in the courts yadda yadda yadda . . . why not take that effort of "making a granite monument to the Ten Commandments" and spend the money at Kinko's and put up a bunch of 8 by 10 signs on places likely to be robbed, with the 10 commandments on it, especially with "Thou shalt not steal" and "Thou shalt not kill" (okay, "Thou shalt not commit murder" - revisionists!)???

I mean, if it's going to be a deterrant for those who have already committed the crime and got caught, and they only see it in the courtroom when they're trying to explain the circumstances where Joe Six-pack had no other option but to commit a crime, why not put that up as a deterrant instead????
