More proof of East Coast Bias
How come when UCONN shot poorly in the first half...according to ESPN it was all just do to UCONN's struggles...not a mention from the biased sports network about Stanford's defense.

However, when things turned around in the second half.. the commentators on ESPN credited UCONN's great defense...not a word from them that maybe Stanford just wasn't hitting their shots..

Seems to me...you can't have it both ways..

1. LOL, that isnt an east coast bias.
Thats just a UCONN is frickin amazing and they needed to rationalize why they were playing so poorly...bias. If UCONN was located in Alaska, theyd probably do the same thing.

But go ahead Upton, keep being ridiculous.

3. ESPN needed to rationalize?
Now THAT IS ridiculous

Gee, I thought they were there to report on the game, not make excuses for UCONN.

No East Coast Bias from ESPN...no way..tell that to all the baseball fans who are not supporters of the Yankees or Red Sox..

6. Did you even watch the game?
I'm not disputing that UCONN is a great team....but Stanford, despite the fact that they've gone 56-2 and have been the only team to even play UCONN close (twice) during the streak, was give very little credit for anything.

A simple question...if UCONN was responsible for Stanford's poor shooting in the second half, why wasn't Stanford given the same credit for UCONN's less than stellar shooting in the first half?

you didn't even watch the game. Yet, for some reason you feel the need to comment...what an amateur.

Why don't you go back to checking out horse butts....

24. The Chicks were a baseball team, not basketball
Memphis' minor league team was called the Chicks for decades.

Oh, wait, did you mean women's basketball? :spank:

7. Um, and Stanford only got 20 points in the first half...
UCONN was rushing it...Stanford got credit for the defense by the commentators, but clearly there was something going on with UCONN other than just being stopped by good defense...go rewatch the game.

11. Fine joey..
but there was something going on with Stanford other than UCONN in the second half too...notably the ankle injury to Jayne Appel.

I'll ask you the same question I asked trumad..if UCONN was responsible for Stanford's poor shooting in the second half, why wasn't Stanford given the same credit for UCONN's less than stellar shooting in the first half?

8. I watched the second half
and my take as that Stanford was slow and plodding. They just didn't have anyone who could break down the defense. Also UConn blocked a ton of shots in the second half. Lasy but not least you cannot compare UCLA and UConn. The men's teams were not regularly by 45 points. Thrte are only a handfull of good women's teams.

14. wilt the stilt said it best
What I saw is both teams shot poorly in the first half, especially UConn. Stanford did play good defense but their shots were off. Stanford did shoot poorly as well in the 2nd half while UConn caught fire. UConn played good defense in the 2nd half, they had multiple blocks in the lane.

I will say you're getting a lot of flak. I will say East Coast bias exists to an extent. It's not much a factor in the pros but games on East coast are watched more often than games on the west coast to a national audience. It's certainly a factor in college sports. The sportswriters on the East coast have their articles done and in bed while there are games still going on late in the West coast. College Gameday finishes airing by the end of the 3rd quarter of a lot of West coast games throughout the season. This also effects Top 25 voters who are more likely to see a lot more East Coast games than West Coast games. Like I said it's a small factor and probably doesn't apply to the title game last night but it exists.

17. You know East Coast Bias exists
because you live out west...it's a known quantity to us.

I think it's rather telling that those on this thread that deny it's existence are all living back east..

19. Where you paying attention?? The announcers credited both defenses
in the first half, in addition to two horrid offenses.

Not a bias, just stating the facts. And yes, they were correct when they said UConn's defense continued throughout the second half.

20. Dude. Get a grip
You have an West Coast inferiority complex. I'm actually out in the West at the moment and I've actually had some trouble keeping up on my sports teams here. Have to go to the internetz. Have you actually ever visited the East Coast? Seriously most of the people who cry BIAS usually have never even visited.

21. Here's my East Coast bias...although I live on the west coast...the good news for Stanford
is that they held UCONN to its lowest score of the past 78 games, lowest shooting percentage during that time, lowest foul shot percentage, and lowest point total in the first half of any game in its HISTORY.

The bad news for Stanford...after all that, they still lost.

Moral of the story-really great teams find a way to win.

I don't know...never been, but somehow I doubt it!

As for attendance...the only one that matters is that of Condo-liar Rice who showed up at STANFORD'S morning practice to offer encouragment! That kind of EVIL deserves to lose!

Kurt Schilling shows up for every Red Sox Game!!
