"The Heat's chances of drawing even in its playoff series against Boston might have improved with Kevin Garnett out of the equation for Game 2 on Tuesday.
Garnett was suspended without pay by the league for elbowing Heat forward Quentin Richardson in the face during an altercation between the teams with 40 seconds remaining in Boston's 85-76 victory Saturday.
Richardson was fined $25,000 for his role in instigating the incident that led to players from both teams exchanging taunts and shoves at an area near the Heat's bench.
The altercation started when Celtics forward Paul Pierce fell to the ground near Miami's bench and aggravated a shoulder injury.
Garnett went to check on Pierce after a stoppage in play. Richardson then walked toward both players and exchanged words with Garnett before the incident escalated with players from both teams getting involved. No punches were thrown, but Garnett, who was grabbed by Heat center Jamaal Magloire, threw an elbow at Richardson as he was trying to free himself from Magloire."
