Dhani Jones will tackle duathlon during weekend visit to Richmond

Roughly translated, Dhani Jones’ first name means “thinking man” in Hindi.

And that seems somehow appropriate, because Jones’ presence will give participants in Sunday’s National Duathlon Festival age-group competition a great deal about which to think.

As in: Who is that guy and what is he doing here?

All good questions. Jones is the Cincinnati Bengals’ starting middle linebacker; a rugged, 6-1 240-pounder who is preparing for his 10th season in the National Football League.

By comparison, the typical wiry duathlete more closely resembles, well, a kicker. But football is not the only role that sets Jones apart.

He performs during the offseason as the host of “Dhani Tackles the Globe,“ a popular Travel Channel series in which he takes part in some of the world’s more esoteric sporting endeavors while simultaneously exploring the cultures that sustain them.
