Boston Mayor discusses "ionic" sports figures
Talk about a doh moment.

In what is quickly becoming a standard for New England politicians, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino got his sports heroes mixed up when he asserted that Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek made the game-winning field goal in Super Bowl XXXVI.

Menino also forgot the letter "C" when he described the moment as "ionic" in Boston sports history during his speech at the unveiling of the Bobby Orr statue in front of the TD Garden on Monday. The statue depicts Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" that ended the 1970 Stanley Cup finals.

2. Yeah but you think if a politician was
going to a sports themed event he'd at least make sure he had his facts straight. I can tell you right now that if the Mayor of Washington DC couldn't name the starting QB or current HC of the Washington Redskins he'd be impeached...

3. I bet the mispornunciation of iconic was due to the heavy boston accent!
As for Varitek kicking a field goal...imprisonment for that crime, I say!!!
