2. Big Ten baseball?..lol
a quick search reveals the last time the "mighty" Big Ten won a CWS was OSU in 1966. Since that time, the Pac-10 has had, yep count 'em, 19 (n-i-n-e-t-e-e-n) CWS champions..

Just more proof that the Pac-10 is indeed the nation's Premier Athletic Conference-10

20. Arizona State is ranked #2 at the moment
They look really good this year especially in the bullpen. They are very deep I think. Kudos to El's team, Texas for getting the #1 ranking from ASU. I do hope they run into each other in the CWS, should make for some good games like last year when they played twice, I'm hoping for different results this time around. :bounce:

Edited on Sun May-30-10 07:16 AM by JonLP24
It was falling apart before then and it was a piece of crap in general, about a month ago or so the screen stopped working. The computer would power on but the screen wouldn't show anything. I got this one in the mail last night.

Attending the CWS seems like a blast. I hope you have a great time. :toast:

I can't find anything about Arizona State baseball for this week. The Women's softball team plays @ U. of Florida in a Super Regional Game. I can't watch though, it's on ESPNU.

Edited on Wed May-26-10 08:08 PM by El Supremo
Not even Colorado or Iowa State have baseball teams.

BTW, Mizzou beat UT in the tournament right after UT swept them in Columbia in three games. But UT isn't out yet.

Check out the top 25. There's not only NO Big Ten club ranked (Pac-10 has three), but there's NOT even one Big Ten team even receiving votes!

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/baseball/usatpoll.htm

Big Ten baseball is roughly equivalent to a west coast little league.

27. Unfortunately, Upton, College Baseball is affected by climate.
Totally. The warm weather schools dominate year in and year out. But that doesn't stop Big Ten baseball from being hugely entertaining as proven by the recent tournament and the never say die attitude of the heroic Hawkeyes. Plus, it keeps us Big Tenners busy as we wait for the JUGGERNAUT to announce it's expansion while the piddly little PAC-10 watches in awe for the Premier Athletic Conference to make its much anticipated move.

28. I see..so it's the climate excuse again..
isn't that what you used to explain away past Big Ten failures in bowl games? So, in other words, whenever the Big Ten comes up short it's due to the climate? I find that hard to believe...make that impossible.

What are you going to do if this much anticipated, at least by you and a few Big Ten bloggers, expansion never materializes...blame it on the weather?

30. C'mon now Condem
Michigan won the WCWS (Women's College World Series)in 2005. The weather didn't seem to bother them any. I guess the women of the Big Ten must be tougher than the men.

You've been breaking out this ridiculous "climate" argument whenever you need an excuse to explain away Big Ten failures. You've used it for both cold and warm weather sports, and logically Condem you can't have it both ways.

Here, read about the true Premier Athletic Conference-10. You won't find any excuses, climate or otherwise, and none are needed.... for the Pac-10 is the true Conference of Champions..

31. LOL, Upton. Women's Softball??
After your Bowl season of late I'm truly surprised you want to go down this road. Talk about failures. And hoops. You have a short memory my friend. No worries, though. Lane Kiffin will get USC back on the right path after Pete 'the Cheat' Carroll abandoned them. If I were you, Upton, I'd move to say Ann Arbor. At least they have the guts to blow the whistle on themselves. Honor. That's one word that's never uttered in a PAC-10 classroom. By the way, did you notice anything about that top 25 you posted?

33. It doesn't take a brain surgeon, mad.
If you live in warmer climes you can play baseball OUTDOORS year round. I may be wrong but that is probably a good reason why the southern and western schools dominate the top 25 in baseball and women's softball. Just a guess.

You really think Nebraska and Mizzou would regret it later? Unless the Big 12 changes how their revenue is dispersed there are going to be some unhappy campers. The Big 12 meetings are this week and the presidents and chancellors of the Big Ten meet in Chicago this weekend. So I'm sure the innuendo will be flying. 40. That argument might be worthwhile Condem
except that I see schools like UConn ranked 19th...if the Big East can play baseball, why can't the Big Ten?. I don't believe you can play baseball OUTDOORS year around in CT. I don't see them crying about the weather either.

I understand you're claiming that Big Ten baseball is lacking because of climate issues, but there has to be much more at work here. I mean, not only isn't a Big Ten team ranked, but looking at the lack of top 25 votes, one has to assume the conference isn't even competitive when lined up against the rest of the country.

I see Minnesota won the Big Ten tournament and a spot in the Regionals. The 64 team field will be announced today..we'll see if any other Big Ten teams make the tournament...perhaps even make a run. You never know, maybe I can be proved wrong. If not, you can then go about formulating more excuses for Big Ten inferiority.

41. You bring up one northern team and this is the basis for your argument, Upton?
I'll just throw out a synopsis, here. Because of the climate northern kids find other sports to succeed in. Just an example: In Iowa, wrestling is huge. In fact our HS baseball season just started last week. Now, granted. Iowa still sends some kids to the pros. Jeff Marshall. In the Bigs. Went to USC. But not like the western or southern states. If you can play it all year round you will. I'll go further. I don't see a northern school EVER winning the CWS. The talent as a whole compared to the warm weather schools just isn't there. If I'm a HS kid excelling in baseball up north I'm going somewhere where I can play all seasons. Simple, isn't it?
