What should happen to Andrew Bynum?
after that thug play on JJ Barea, what should the league to to him?

I think he needs a lengthy suspension, on the order of 15-20 games, to start next season. He could have broken Barea's ribs. An example needs to be set.

1. I'm not sure
In general I'm not a fan of examples being set. It isn't fair to the person that is the example(if other people received lighter penalties). Also sometimes they(whoever) tend to lighten the penalties after the "example". If it is a new standard that is fine but I'm not sure about punishing someone with new penalties if there are already some on the books.

However it is a certainly a cheap-shot and probably deserving of a fine or suspension. I'm not sure exactly how much, I'm not aware of any other problems from Bynum, it isn't like he has a reputation some guys have. So probably not as much but consistent with other penalties for similar fouls.

4. I can't watch at work, but I recall some nasty stuff from last year...
I think he does have that rep.

5. Yeah, he has a rep alright..
this particular incident is from 2009, in which Bynum's flagrant foul sent Gerald Wallace to the hospital with a collapsed lung and a fractured rib..

6. Thanks
Take that into consideration I guess.

This thing wouldn't surprise me if it happened a few times over a career from a big man(a few times a year is what I'm thinking of), I think there is mentality carried over from the mid-nineties and probably earlier about protecting the lane. I remember players getting abused in the lane.

However, I retract what I say about Bynum. So no first time light offender type of penalties.

7. Lot of Bynum's past BS is surfacing after yesterday...
check out this one. It's from earlier this year. Again it's a flagrant foul from Bynum using his elbow on a player up in the air and exposed..

2. hell, If I were the Lakers GM, I would've told him to find his own way home last night
and to clean out his locker permanently when he made it back.

That was such a bullshit cheap shot. I hope the Lakers cut his ass.

8. It was so blatant
He didn't even TRY for the ball; just took out his frustration. That's why he needs a lengthy suspension.

9. 25 game suspension sounds about right
This isn't basketball in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Actions now have serious consequences.

16. 25 games is half a season for him, given the time he spends on the DL. n/t

10. He should be banned. I'm sick of bad apples in sports. Here's his comment:
"For me, it was embarrassing having the smallest guy on the court keep running down the lane and then making shots," Bynum said. "So I just fouled him."

12. It's what I expect from a Phil Jackson team.
He doesn't teach sportsmanship, IMO. Just look at Kobe's antics, and Jackson's lack of response.

At least one blogger agrees with me.

Buh-bye Phil. Don't let the screen door kick you.

13. Suspend him for his next 2 PLAYOFF games, so it actually matters.
But since that won't happen, I think 5 is fine. 5 out of 82 is a 6% salary hit, which is starting to get up there in terms of a financial penalty.

14. He got five games
per the scroll on NBATV. And a 25k fine for the way he left the court.

Slap on the wrist, imo.
