Tiki, Tiki, say it ain't so!
During an interview on the Fox pregame show, Tiki Barber related how chummy he is with the Cheneys -- having "hit it off" with Lynne Cheney and then becoming part of the Cheney's personal social circle. Worse, Tiki was obviously thrilled to be included in the guest list for Satan's cocktail parties.

I was DISGUSTED!!!!!!

1. Don't worry, he's got his coming to him next week.
The 'Skins need to lower the hammer on him anyway, but this is another good reason to root against him.

2. The political leaning of athletes are irrevalent.
There, I said it. It really doesn't matter in the long run. The only thing that matters is their performance on the field.

5. Tell that to the former players who have used their sports celebrity...
... as a springboard to political office, especially ex-footballers who have been running for the most conservative wing of the GOP. Earlier this morning I sat through a puke-inducing interview with Steve Largeant, then this interview with Tiki.

Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass about the Giants OR the Redskins. I'm a Bengals fan. I'm just sick of pro athletes and announcers whose constant shilling for the Bushreich almost puts Faux News to shame.

At this pont, I feel that anyone who says the political leanings of athletes isn't important is simply looking for any excuse to dismiss the possible political aspirations of a Tom Brady or Lynn Swann, or the value of putting the handsome, smiling face of a Tiki Barber on the most monstrous cabal of evil ever to inhabit Pennsylvania Ave. It's called marketing, folks. That's the reality of it. Do I think Tiki is an amzing football player/athlete? Yes, by God! Does it turn my stomach to see him slobbering over Dick and Lynne Cheney? You bet your ass.

6. sports and politics are seperate
Giants fans loved McKonkey when he played. He got spanked when he ran for Congress. Just because Tiki is friends with Republicans doesn't make him one.

7. Sports and politics are separate?

Tell it to Jesse Owens. Tell it to Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Congressmen Largent, Osborne and Watts might disagree. Ask Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. Then ask Cassius Clay.

Politics and sports have been linked since Rome: How do you satisfy the masses and prevent social unrest? Bread and games. A policy our leaders have mastered in this era.

8. Largent
was elected in a state he didn't play in. He lost when he ran for governor. Regardless, one has nothing to do with the other. The games are not political. Attempts to link politics to sport are offensive. I could give a rats ass about the political leanings of the athletes that play for the teams I root for.

10. You're not the only one who finds it offensive
Yes, I also hate it when politics are infused into sports. But it's not the fans who are doing it -- it's the players, the coaches and the announcers. I'd prefer to watch my games sans the political pandering, but the fact is the blatant political shilling -- almost without exception for the knuckle-dragging GOP -- is constantly shoved in our faces. I'm just sick of it! Can't I even watch a pregame show without some infomercial for the Bushreich?

The link between sports and politics is just a fact, just like the link between musicians and politics, movies and politics, shopping and politics, et al ad infinitum. LIFE is politics.

I still consider Tiki to be one helluva player, but I really, really didn't need to hear his anecdotes about slumming with the Cheneys during a pregame interview. If you have a complaint about linking politics and sports, tell it to the players.

11. "LIFE is politics."
No, you've simply bought into the notion that everyone and everything must be neatly catagorized by political affliation.

Of course we see this more on Du where people are more passionate but I am so sick of the I won't watch this actor/actress..., I am no longer speaking to friend/relative..., I can no longer stand my fav player etc etc. All over politics. Most of what it really amounts to(and I am not directing this at you, more like the whole phenomenon) is you don't agree with me politically so therefore I cannot be associated or support you even in endeavors that have nothing to do with politics.

If life is politics, life is not worth living.

14. He's still my fave too.
But I would rather have him on our side. He may still be on our side. Just b/c he hangs with them doesn't mean he IS one of them. But I don't see how he can hang with them or boast about hanging with them. They are scum.

18. Tiki apparently wants to be in TV when he retires.
So, he's on FOX and Friends. Why? I don't know, maybe he want to be on a cable news network that actually has viewers, unlike, say, MSNBC. That and supposedly FOX pays pretty well, too.
