BOSTON --The Red Sox have agreed to a one-year contract with reliever Rudy Seanez, who had two solid seasons after struggling in a brief stay with Boston in 2003.
The deal includes a team option for 2007.
The 37-year-old right-hander, who passed a physical Tuesday, is 10-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 96 relief outings the past two seasons. In 2003, he was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in nine relief appearances for the Red Sox.
Last season, Seanez went 7-1 with a 2.69 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 60 1-3 innings with San Diego. He was second among NL relievers with 12.5 strikeouts per nine inning. He was sidelined for 28 games in July and August with a strained right shoulder then went 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA in his remaining 19 appearances.
