What a shame. Tony is one of the good guys. Always thought him a good player and a good coach who got where he was from sheer determination and hard work. My sympathies to the Dungy family and the Colts from this Steeler fan.

1. A local Sports/Talk radio station is reporting it as suicide.
Snip: The Hillsborough County Sheriff's department is confirming the death of 18-year-old James Dungy. Dungy, the son of former Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy, was found dead in his North Tampa apartment by his girlfriend early this morning. A death investigation is going on now. At this time, it appears suicide is the cause of death.

2. Too Sad
I use to make deliveries in the area of town the dungys live in Indianapolis, and delivered once to Tony 's home, I still remember this delivery because James is the one who answered the door. I remember he just seem like a giant, cause I'm 6ft tall and I had to really look up at James to make eye contact he had to be at least 6-7 or 6-8, and he seemed to be more built like a basketball player than what a football player strange for a Football Coach's son.

RIP James & sympathies towards the Dungy Family they've had a enough health problems over the past year and a half then anyone should have to deal with.

4. This is awful.
My condolences to Dungy and his family. The worst part is that you know those fucking leeches at ESPN will run this non-stop until the end of the season.

5. How tragic...
And how sad too, particularly so very close the holidays (and at a time when professionally, Tony Dungy is having a great year and should be enjoying being on top). How very, very sad for everyone.

My sincere condolences to the Dungy family and the Colts organization from an Eagles fan.

8. Clues on myplace.com?
The Chicago sports radio outlet is reporting remors that James has a web page on myplace, and that the contents may have provided some clues that something was wrong. (The death is now being reported as a suicide)

9. Was he a college student? Supporting himself?
This might start to make sense if we had an idea of what he was doing with his life.

10. He was in college.
His girlfriend had also left to go on a walk, and returned to find him. So, there's a lot we don't know at this point. It's just very, very sad. :(

11. as a father
I just cannot imagine what the Dungys are going through. It was hard enough to survive miscarriage. To lose a child is the worst thing that can happen to any parent. My heart goes out to them.
