Anyone know anything about Kelvin Sampson
apparently Indiana University hired him as their next basketball coach.

If you want to know what happened to the old coach just take a look at these assholes. They are already trying to run this guy out of town. And of course not a single one of them are racist.

1. I'm a big OU fan, so I'm familiar with Sampson
he's been a great coach for most of his 12 years at Oklahoma, but the timing of this is surprising. In the last year the program has come under self-imposed sanctions for NCAA violations involving excessive/illegal phone calls to recruits, and the NCAA is still reviewing the case and may impose additional sanctions. To top it off, this lsat year has been his worst coaching job by far. Generally he has overachieved during the regular season (his record in the tournament is less impressive), but this year he took a team that was a preseason top-5 team and appeared loaded with talent and mostly stumbled through the season. They lost their first game in the Big 12 tournament and then lost in the first round of the NCAAs as well. So while I think he's a good coach and might do very well at Indiana, the timing is very peculiar.

There was a significant minority of Oklahoma fans who've been down on Sampson for years, mostly because they don't like his style of ball--he generally has low offensive output, rarely does a lot of running, and for the last several years has suffered from frequent scoring droughts. (In one Big 12 tourney game a few years ago against Missouri, OU went almost ten minutes without scoring. How they won that game I'll never know.)

On the other hand, his teams (this year is an exception) are known for their hustle and for outstanding defense. I'm sad to see him leave OU, though I don't blame him at all and I wish him the best at Indiana.

I was cruising a different Indiana board earlier, and there was at least one poster making racist comments about Kelvin as well :puke:

2. Thank you. They came out in droves against Davis
I find it ironic that at mid-season they were talking contract extension and after loosing a couple of games started showing up to games in black. I don't doubt Sampson will get similar treatment in Indiana. These same folks would sit and wait years for Steve Alford or Randy Wittman to win a game if they had the choice. Lose once and they want anyone else out.

3. If You Guys Hire Alford, You'll Get What You Deserve
He's a miserable human being and a complete tool. It's 2006, folks! This isn't Hoosiers anymore! The fact that little Stevie used to be able to throw a ball in a basket for some small town school is not that special nor will it excuse what an idiot he's been.

Remember, he harbored a fugitive from the law. Sexual offender and serial batterer was kept incommunicado by the coach to assure he would be available for a weekend road trip. Nice guy!

7. I think you are correct and I imagine this is why they didn't
consider him (reportedly).

8. As an Iowa fan
I wish that IU would have taken Alford. Yeah, the Hawks had a good year this past season, but it's the first time in seven years that the Hawks have finished .500 or better in the conference. And the Pierce situation still rankles me. If Alford ever leaves, there will not be a lot of people sorry to see him go.

10. nah, that's the "blue collar" in him
Maybe he'll change his wardrobe for the big 10, though. He did, in the last couple of years, add the sportcoat to his repertoire, but it usually didn't last long into game time :)

6. I was just e-mailing with my friends about Sampson.
We're glad you're getting him. He's a nice guy and all, but he'll never win the big one.
