Detroit hat trick last night

Pistons, Wings, and Tigers all won! Pistons move onto the Eastern Conference Semis, Wings move into the Western Conference finals, and Tigers swept the Yankees in NYC.

None of this will be noticed or remarked upon in the national press, of course, because it doesn't involve riots, urban blight, or a mayoral scandal. But I think it's great. Go Detroit!

But then, what's glamourous about hard-working teams without the big names who play as a team, in front of the best fans in sports? ESPN can't make a story out of THAT. LeBron might have chipped a nail, or something. That's far more important.

The Red Wings have arguably the two best players in hockey - Datsyuk and Zetterberg - but if you follow the NHL, all you hear is Sidney Crosby......you'd think he was the only player in the whole game.

5. Which was a Red Wings SWEEP

I was in downtown Detroit the day of Game Four and people were driving around with brooms tied to their cars. The Spirit of Detroit was wearing a Wings jersey, you could hear the Formula One cars zooming around Belle Isle in the Grand Prix. The city was buzzing with life -- it was great!
