Instant Replay: Love it or hate it?

How does everyone feel about technology in sports? Are you old school or new age? You dig instant replay? What say ye? I've realized I just want to watch people foul up calls and make our lives miserable during the biggest game of the year... we all need a nice dose of reality. And refs -- just like people -- screw up too...

1. there is a time for technology in refereeing
I believe that time is only to determine a score (for instance, horseracing has been using 'instant replay' for decades in the form of photo finishes, so has track and field, no problem) you want to know if the ball broke the plane of the endzone? fine. implant the goal sensors in soccer to determine if a goal was scored? good. same in hockey. was that serve in or out? it is a definate, pure call that can be determined with sensors. it's either a touchdown or goal (at which point everything that comes afterwards is moot) or it isn't. it is easy technology at this point.

otherwise, the refs are part of the game. sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. guess what? sometimes it rains and sometimes it doesn't. leagues should invest in better training and selection if they think there is a problem, not instant replay.

2. balls and strikes
Yeah, I just wonder if it gets to the point where you see instant replay on every disputable call... balls, strikes etc. Probably not likely, but that's what society has become I guess...

My B-league soccer team loses all the time on questionable calls... I never see the instant replay cam at the games. What's the deal? ;)

3. you're too cheap to pony up for the HD replay equipment
this is actually one of the reasons that the English FA is resisting electronic goal technology, they don't want to have to use it in every league (and the rules say that the game must be the same at every level)

i see no reason why balls and strikes can't be called automatically. that's the easiest technology of all.

4. I'm just old school
Yeah, I just think we should all get screwed equally -- just like our jobs. Kudos to the FA!

Instant replay is necessary for accuracy.

7. is it because you're a hockey fan?

to clarify goals?

I still like to watch my favorite team lose on a bad call in real time ... so no instant replay for me. Call me masochistic.

8. Yep.
The game can be so fast at times. I've seen goals where the puck came in and out so fast you'd never know it went in, especially when it hits that center bar in the back of the net. Their replay process is usually fairly quick, too.
