Big 12 to keep three-way football tiebreaker
What a crock! If head to head is still a tie then the least latest team to win should be the winner.

The lesson of the story, don't end up in three-way tie.

Big 12 football coaches rejected a proposal to change the tiebreaker rule that gave Oklahoma the edge over Texas and Texas Tech in last year's South Division race.

(snip)

Texas had defeated the Sooners during the regular season, but the division resulted in a three-way deadlock when Texas Tech beat the Longhorns and Oklahoma defeated the Red Raiders. All teams finished 7-1.

Coaches considered adopting a three-team tiebreaker that would eliminate the lowest-ranked team in the BCS standings, then go to the head-to-head result of the remaining two teams. If that had been in place last year, Texas would have played for the Big 12 title because Texas Tech was behind both in the BCS standing.

"The tiebreaker system we had was felt, by the majority of coaches, to be appropriate to what we want to accomplish," commissioner Dan Beebe said. "There's risks in either one. We had one risk last year."

that would have been the case no matter which team won the tiebreaker. Such is the nature such a tie.

3. what do you mean "the least latest team to win"?
Do you mean the team that has been the longest without winning the division title? I'd be okay with that system.

There basically isn't any truly fair way to break a three-way tie, though, when all the teams have only one loss and are 1-1 against the others in the tie. I think the system they had last year is better than the proposed change, but someone's going to get screwed no matter what.

4. Yes.
The hell with the BCS! College should be about sportsmanship not Bowl & TV money.

BTW, I read that the decision is still up to the ADs. But would they buck their coaches?

5. I think the ADs will go with the coaches
especially because the ADs are all the more likely to be concerned about the BCS and TV money, and the current tiebreaker works better for that than the one they were considering.

I don't think your idea has been seriously considered, but as I said, I'd be fine with that. Would've been fun to see Tech and Missouri in the Big 12 title game :) (Though I also enjoyed the CCG a great deal as it was :D)

6. Please only post news about the Southeastern Conference.
Nobody cares about the Big 10.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

7. We've been PM'ing each other, cboy. Just the opposite.
Seems everyone is sick to death of the SEC, their incessant yapping and total lack of a crucial part of the game - Defense. To be allowed to weigh in on the college football topics one's conference must have D and lack the hideous showboating so common in the south. Thank YOU for your effort.

8. I don't blame you. I'd be mad too if the SEC won the
national title every year.

HA!

9. Think class and you'll be class, cboy.
The Big Ten's motto. The SEC's : No class - on the field and in the lecture halls.

11. I know. I intentionally said Big 12 to help illustrate my lack
of concern about the division.

And I would ordinarily be a Pac-10 guy, but I went to school in Knoxville, TN.

14. I think Tennessee fans are used to winning, and when we don't,
we get impatient and want to shake things up.

That's what needed to happen, and all I can say is I'm willing to give the guy a chance.

His antics don't bother me as long as he guides the team back to where it belongs atop the SEC East.

If he fails, I'll want him out sooner than later. And so will the school.
