NH House concurs with Senate! (178-167) Same-sex marriage bill goes to Governor Lynch

Having been passed by the NH Senate, the bill now goes to Democratic Governor John Lynch. Lynch has previously said that he supports civil unions for same-sex couples but opposes same-sex marriage. The governor has not said whether he would veto the bill. Alternatively, Lynch could let it become law without his signature.

Nominally, the bill provides for civil or religious marriage by gay couples. Clergy are not obligated to officiate if doing so conflicts with their religious beliefs. Rather than gender neutral language, the bill provides for "bride," "groom" or "spouse." The bill specifically precludes polygamous marriages. There is a discriminatory section; while heterosexuals may marry at 14 years of age, same-sex couples are required to be at least 18 years of age.

9. Because "Separate" can never be "Equal".
Obama, as a former civil rights attorney, knows this, which is why, back in the 90s, Obama supported same-sex marriage. It wasn't until he became a player in national politics that he changed his "official" policy and espoused, instead, civil unions, to appease party leaders and the DLC.

10. Why do others choose to DENY the label "marriage"?

A far more interesting question, imho.

11. This question is getting old.
:eyes: A majority in our party and nearly everyone here supports marriage for same-sex couples. But to answer your question: history has shown separate but equal does not work. Marriage is a dignified institution, an affirmation of love, that all people should be allowed to participate in, regardless of gender.
