Not another penny to KISS... lest it end up in Gene Simmons' pocket...
From a CNN entertainment article posted this morning:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/21/american.idol.scenes/index.html
In a two-hour finale that featured this year's finalists performing with the Black Eyed Peas, Steve Martin, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Richie, Queen Latifah and Jason Mraz, a guitar-wielding Allen did a duet with Keith Urban on the country superstar's new single, "Kiss a Girl," while Lambert thrilled fans by donning a pair of platform boots and joining '70s rock band KISS in an over-the-top medley, complete with a pyro show.

KISS co-founder Gene Simmons was asked whether Lambert would be invited to join the band on the road this fall. "No," said Simmons. "He'd be better off joining Queen."

Wassamatter, Gene? Sour grapes because you're losing your voice in your old age?
Or are you just that much of a homophobic asshole, and couldn't resist a dig?

Either way... douchebag. Not another cent, just like i wouldn't spend another cent on that a-hole sell-out Vincent Furnier (aka Alice Cooper) -- and this comes from someone who grew up in love with all of them.

Fuck 'em.

1. Look I hate Kiss, HATE THEM
but...

Kiss has 2 vocalists already. Queen doesn't have a frontman. I don't think he was dissing Adam.

Don't give your money to Kiss cause they are sexist, republican douche-bags, not because of this.

9. Trust me... based on last night's 'performance', they're down to 'one' vocalist
Gene's voice (which was never stellar) is sandpaper now... sucks to be him. Guess he's left with just the tongue thing how. *L*

An true... Queen's avante garde style would probably better suit someone with Adam's range.

However, coming from Simmons, this just feels like a back-handed dig, ya know.
Even from a douchebag like that, it's uncalled for.

All Kiss had was the fire and blood crap. Queen actually had talent.

4. I don't know what exactly Gene meant by that comment.
Edited on Thu May-21-09 10:54 AM by Sebastian Doyle
But given some of the things I've heard about Paul Stanley, I'd be surprised to find out Gene's a homophobe.

Now having said that, I haven't had any use for KISS since about 1978, so they wouldn't be getting another dime from me regardless.

6. That's why in this case
I don't think Gene is being a jerk, when interviewed about Adam last night he was very complimentary. Hello Kiss hass Simmons and Stanley, the faces of kiss still alive and performing, why would Kiss need 3 singers. Queen on the other hand has no one to fill the shoes of Freddie Mercury, I actually wish that Adam would join Queen.

Ew, I need a shower now for defending that Bush loving asshole.

13. I don't watch American Idol, so I haven't seen much of Adam's work
But from what little I've seen, I'd agree that he's probably a better fit for Queen than Paul Rodgers, in terms of the range to do justice to Freddie's material. Not that anyone could ever truly replace Freddie. :evilfrown:

I can't really tell if he had malicious intent- I've not heard of any past homophobic remarks made by Simmons, but I haven't exactly been hanging on his every word.

20. o'rly?!
Simmons suggested that, rather than guest-performing with HIS band, the place for Adam is to replace that other flamboyant gay guy (who's dead) from that other band

...but I'M being 'a bit too sensitive'?

Generally speaking, sexist a-holes don't think any more highly of gay/bi men than they do women, so i'd say there's at least a better-than-50% chance that he was being a homophobe prick.

But then again, ya know, i might just be 'too sensitive'.

21. You are putting words in his mouth.
Simmons did not use the words "flamboyant gay guy." Those are your words, not his. If he had said it that way I would also be flaming him. And BTW, for the record, I have never liked the band Kiss and their music so it's not as if I am trying to defend him because I am a fan.

I hope that someone asks Adam what type of interaction he had with Simmons back stage. I think that would be very telling one way or the other.

19. well ...
First off, Gene has been homophobic in the past but has attempted to atone for it.
Secondly, it was a joke. i'm gay and thought it was funny.
Third, and most important, Queen is a much better band and i agree Lambert should join them instead.

22. As a kid, I somehow managed to listen to both KISS and Queen...
Not knowing the beliefs and activities of either bands' members, Queen's music was better - if not a little self-congratulatory at times. (yes, yes, Queen will rock us, Queen are the champions, whatever...)

KISS (that's presumably an acronym for something vile) just took the easy way out; being bizarre on stage.

Not that I care for either group, but KISS was (and still is) overrated.

and saw him as a star. Trust me....if Simmons didn't see Adam as goldplated, they wouldn't have shown up there.

Same with QUEEN. Same with Slash.

Adam's theatrics are SUITED for QUEEN more than any other band I can think of...and I can think of plenty.

No wonder the right look on gays with such disdain when people like you are touchy about almost anything and everything.

KISS have a certain band culture, Queen have their band culture; given Adam's singing style, it would be more intune with Queen.

29. Actually, for Gene, that's kind.... (he's a jerk!)
Freddy Mercury - a bucktooth, hedgehog-lookin' little git - had more of a commanding stage presence with 1 spotlight than Kiss could muster with makeup, pyro, fire, blood, and all the rest. And Gene Simmons knows it.
If he sincerely thinks Adam could ever fill those shoes - that's quite an endorsement.
(And I've seen Queen live!)

31. Well this just in......
Apparently Brian May & Roger Taylor were indeed impressed by Adam's vocals, and they are "talking". Nothing definite yet, but what Gene said could actually happen, whatever his intentions were in saying it. (just heard this on the idiot box.... no link, but I'm sure it will turn up online soon enough)

Though I really wish they would leave Queen the Hell alone already. Adam Lambert may well have a Hell of a career in front of him, but he's no Freddie. Nor should he be.

34. Is Kiss even in the same league with Queen?
I don't think so.

If I'm not mistaken, Queen opened for an Elvis Presley concert about 30 years ago. Queen has fans of all ages. I have no idea who KISS' fans are. Yes, KISS has "Rock And Roll All Nite" which would inspire many to tap the dashboard rather than change the station, but Queen has two songs that are played in stadiums around the nation every week, and a some others that virtually anyone between 17 and 70 can identify.
