Marriage equality -

This has been bothering me for quite some time.

Why is it, exactly, that some heterosexual people think that it is okay to put the marriage relationships of homosexual couples up for referendum? Why is it, exactly, that they think it's perfectly all right to decide for other people what other consenting adult they can or cannot marry?

How would these same people feel if heterosexual marriage were put up for referendum? How would they feel if their own marriages were put up to a vote and placed in jeopardy from bigotry?

Why is it so hard for some heterosexual people to put themselves into the shoes of another?

I didn't have to ask anyone's permission when I got married. No one was allowed to vote on whether or not I could marry the person of my choice. What right would I have to make that decision for anyone else?

I will never understand the people who believe that marriage equality for all would somehow diminish their own marriages. How insecure they must be in their own relationships to believe that someone else's love could hurt their own.

I refer to them as "so called Christians", are miserable in their own lives. They need someone or some group to hate. They do not care about mankind. They are shallow and insecure people who have been given a platform by the Right wing media.

Their marriages are not the ideal marriages that they try to claim they are saving. They are worried that if gays get married and have successful marriages then what is the haters excuse for their own bad marriage.

Remember the bible has always been used to justify hatred of one kind of another. It was used to justify slavery, hate groups etc. These people also don't consider gays human....they are selfish and sick people.

... or perhaps keyboard, in this case. :)

I understand the issues, the history and that mankind is capable of terrible things--but I never really understand us, homo sapiens, when it comes to meanness and cruelty.

Hoping and praying for the right decision from the Court.

...is that they usually are of the mistaken belief that:

1. Being gay is a life style; and

2. It is a choice to be gay.

In other words, they are totally clueless and uninformed ... and for some reason, they seem to be afraid of those who are gay.

Totally stupid thing to do. I have tried to disabuse many of them of their bullshit ideas by asking, "So when did you decide to be straight?" Some get it after that question, others just look puzzled ~~ probably the same ones who listen to El Rushbo.
