You can't import a standard AR-15 rifle from another state no matter when it was acquired or the state of the law in California or any other place at any particular time.
People who acquired them when it was legal to do so were allowed to register them and keep them when the laws that declared them to be "assault weapons" were passed or implemented.
I have mine. I can keep it, but I can't bring in another one. You can't have one because you missed out on the window.
It's not fair to you. I think you should be able to import one to California and register it, as I was permitted to do.
Grandfathering is inherently unfair to those who missed out on an opportunity because of the timing of their birth or their economic circumstances.
