AIDS LifeCycle Trek Sets Off From San Fran to L.A. - 545 miles in 7 days
A big THANK YOU! to the 2,100+ riders and 500+ support crew for their hard work in raising millions to help in the "Ride to End AIDS." Now that Gov. Schwarzenegger is proposing to cut 100% of the state's funding of AIDS programs, the money these riders and roadies are raising is more important than ever. A special shout out to my spouse who rode 2 years ago and who is one of this year's "roadies". I miss you!

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―

More than 2,100 bicyclists from about 40 states and 14 nations left San Francisco Sunday for an annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser.

The 545-mile AIDS/LifeCycle trek to Los Angeles is expected to raise $10.5 million to support HIV/AIDS-related services at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Bicyclists train for months for the weeklong ride and raise a minimum of $3,000 each to support the work of the two sponsoring organizations.

The event has raised about $50 million to fight AIDS since it began in 2002, organizers said.

There are 1.1 million Americans living with HIV, one in six of whom are Californians, according to LifeCycle officials.

1. Kudos to all involved. It's a great fundraiser for SFAF and LAGLC and promoter of AIDS awareness.
It's a great event, a physical and emotional statement of those involved, well supported, widely covered in the press.
