A Jihad for Love

I watched this on LOGO the other day and it broke my heart. I cried with the one guy who left everything and fled to Canada, I cried with the man who got 200 lashes in one hour just because he is gay.

A Jihad for Love (2007) is the world's first documentary film on the coexistence of Islam and homosexuality. The film is directed by Parvez Sharma, and produced by Sharma and Trembling Before G-d director Sandi DuBowski.

The film has also been known under the working title In the Name of Allah.

4. I saw this in the Village during it's first release in 2007; here's a SPOILER -

Mr. Sharma was available for questions in the lobby after the film ended, and I asked him if the others were able to flee to Canada and receive asylum, and he confirmed that yes, they did receive asylum. :) That was a big relief to me.

6. That's Just Sad and Horrible.

I'm going to watch this tonight with my spouse as we got a copy of it on DVD a bit back.

Unfortunately with all the fundie u[surge, I wonder if more of us in this country aren't going to need to ask for asylum.
