Miley Uses Casey Anthony Verdict to Stump for Marriage Equality
Pop star Miley Cyrus once again shows she's a proponent of LGBT equality by tweeting, "You know the world is skewed when people get away with murdering children but we cant get gay marriage legalized in the state of California," reports website Radar Online.

The 18-year-old singer-actress — and burgeoning icon to the gay community — is one of many celebrities who have taken to Twitter to convey their indignation over Casey Anthony being acquitted yesterday of the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

Cyrus, who identifies as Christian, has previously expressed her outrage at notoriously antigay presidential hopeful Rick Santorum. In 2009, Cyrus tweeted a message to blogger Perez Hilton that read, “Jesus loves you and your partner and wants you to know how much he cares! I am a Christian and I love you — gay or not. Because you are no different than anyone else! We are all God's children!"

1. I don't see what one has to do with the other, but I appreciate the sentiment.

3. I wonder if this is part of a long-term strategy
I don't doubt that Miley Cyrus believes in marriage equality. But she's also at an important crossroads for a child star - her fans are growing up, so she has to add to her 'base' if she wants to have a long-term career in the biz. Perhaps she is making overtures to the LGBT community partly for that reason? I don't know, but I'm sure she'd rather be a Michael Jackson than a Leif Garrett.

6. I try not to be. But sometimes I can't help it.
Did you read the first line of my post? I'm sure Lady Gaga is 100 percent genuine in her support of gay rights too. I'm sure she also doesn't mind the sense of comfort that comes from having a dedicated gay fan base that will support her in the long term and help keep her successful and relevant for years to come.

Like I said, Miley Cyrus is at a critical junction in her career . . . one that many a child star has failed to navigate. When your fan base grows out of you, you'd better win new fans or you'll cease to be relevant. If Cyrus can win new fans by articulating what she genuinely believes, there's nothing wrong with that.

8. She came out in favor of marriage equality in 2009

or 2008. Not sure, maybe even earlier but at least 2009. She was criticized for it with many parents claiming they won't let their kids watch Hannah Montana. I like her and believe she is genuine as she has been consistent ever since she supported it.
