Toby Keith, Country Singer, Weighs In On Gay Marriage, Don't Ask Don't Tell
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Toby Keith says gay marriage doesn't bother him and trying to stop it wastes time and money.

The country superstar tells "CMT Insider" airing Saturday on CMT that he doesn't see the reason behind getting into people's personal lives. He says refusing a marriage license to people because they are gay won't stop them from living together, so it accomplishes nothing.

Keith also weighed in on the military's now-repealed "don't ask, don't tell" policy that banned gays serving openly in uniform. He says that anyone with the training and passion should have the right to defend the country, adding: "Somebody's sexual preference is, like, who cares?"

The "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" singer has taken part in nine USO tours to entertain U.S. troops overseas.

1. That is great, but Toby Keith is a monster.
If you drew his blood, and then had an expert examine it, you would see he was a chimera: 1 part monster, 1 part poop, and 1 part lame.

3. I may not listen to his music (I like the oldies Country music).
But I applaud him for what he said.

4. Clint Eastwood did the same thing.

Clint Eastwood Supports Gay Marriage ... Sort of

He won't be riding the main float during Pride, but Clint Eastwood doesn't care if same-sex couples get married.

In the October issue of GQ Magazine, the steely gazed slab of machismo says he doesn't think gay marriage should be such a controversial issue.

"These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage?" Eastwood tells the magazine. "I don’t give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of ... Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."

11. Uh, he is hardly on "our side." Even his reason is not an endorsement of marriage equality.
He doesn't fight against gay marriage because it doesn't accomplish anything since the gays can still live together. Um, yeah, thanks for the support. Barf!

14. I read it as he's ridiculing the idea.
I.e. that the people fighting gay marriage are idiots because it's not like gay people are going away, or won't still be living basically the same.

16. That is a valid point of view, but by the same token, just remember that people CAN learn,
and change. He may have someone close to him who is gay or lesbian and did some thinking about it.

10. He endorsed Bush for election, and re-election.
He also endorsed McCain/Palin.. he specifically endorsed them due to his support of Sarah Palin.

I applaud his response here as being reasonable, but when he supports and endorses the candidates who will do everything opposed to his own words here, his words ring very hallow.

12. I owe nothing to straight people when they simply act like decent people.

Like, good for them, but it's not extraordinary and shouldn't be treated as such.

Also, I have huge problems with other opinions he has expressed. That doesn't disappear because you don't think homosexuality should be illegal.
