Poll question: Should we ask gay publications to refuse advertising from Wal-Mart?
From the "christian" news service Agape ... so take with a grain of salt - or perhaps the whole friggin' salt mine)

The American Family Association (AFA) is expressing disappointment and concern over a pro-homosexual seminar being held on Friday at Wal-Mart's headquarters in Arkansas.

AFA spokesman Randy Sharp says his organization has obtained a copy of a Wal-Mart staff memo inviting home office associates to a seminar on December 16 entitled "Why Market to Gay America?" The memo, dated December 8, notes that America's homosexual community has $610 billion in purchasing power, and that the seminar -- sponsored by Wal-Mart's Office of Diversity -- will "provide insight into the purchasing decisions of GLBT customers."

Sharp says Wal-Mart has long been seen as a shopping place that supports family values. But now, he says, that image is in question.

"Basically what they're doing is they're giving their stamp of approval on homosexuality, recognizing it as a facet in America that deserves their support and their encouragement," he says. "And they want their business."

Why Wal-Mart Must Change

Wal-Mart has become much more than just a small corner store in rural America. In the past 10 years, Wal-Mart has grown into the largest retailer in the world -- number 1 among the Fortune 500 -- and is America's largest employer. With more than 1.4 million employees and over $10 billion in profits, Wal-Mart is a giant company with giant responsibilities. First and foremost, Wal-Mart has a responsibility to all Americans to set the standard for customers, workers and communities, and to help build a better America.

The truth is that Wal-Mart has let America down by lowering wages, forcing good paying American jobs overseas, and cutting costs with total disregard for the values that have made this nation great. Wal-Mart has needlessly exploited illegal immigrants, faces the largest gender discrimination lawsuit in history, forced workers to work in an unsafe environment, and -- incredibly -- broken child labor laws.

America's largest employer must reflect America's values. But, Wal-Mart will never change on its own. Lee Scott, Wal-Mart's CEO, mistakenly thinks he only answers to a few wealthy shareholders who own Wal-Mart stock. Lee Scott is wrong. Wal-Mart and Lee Scott must answer to the American people.

We are the ones who shop at Wal-Mart.

Together, we have the power to change Wal-Mart.

Together, we can hold Wal-Mart accountable and improve our America.

Wal-Mart's Vision for America vs. Our Vision for America
What is the "Wake-Up Wal-Mart" campaign all about?

Well, there are two visions for America: Wal-Mart's America, where profits come before people, and our vision, where people come first.

* In Wal-Mart's America, workers are paid poverty level wages even when they work full-time.
* In our America, workers are paid a living wage with proper health and retirement benefits.
* In Wal-Mart's America, wealthy companies shift their health care costs onto taxpayers like you and your families.
* In our America, corporations live up to their responsibility and provide their employees with adequate and affordable health care coverage.
* In Wal-Mart's America, suppliers are forced to make their goods cheaper even if it means shipping U.S. jobs overseas.
* In our America, we value U.S. jobs and companies that buy and sell "Made in America."
* In Wal-Mart's America, women are paid less than men.
* In our America, women and men are treated equally - fair pay for everyone.

1. What about . . .
No boycotting as a political manuever is wrong no matter which side you are on.

A very slanted poll to make me choose no because gay publications need the money.

2. Could be interesting - if a bunch of us went to the gay-hater sites
and used their email contacts to get in touch with Walmart - make a big, noisy splash that looks like the whackjobs are going after America's favorite store. The more nutso, the better.

Think God-Warrior from Trading spouses. I'm thinking plenty of that Phelps style of preaching myself.

We get the KKKristians in an up-roar about WalMart, we let the normal Americans see just how dangerous and barely restrained the KKKristians are.

3. Wal mart
supports child slavery. Wal mart is such a human rights disaster area where do I begin? A place that condones child slavery overseas and has sold America to China and infused the market with a cheap rules mentality is not an ally to anyone but walmart . Don't cozy up to a sociopath company cause they toss a bone. Some bones are not worth it.

I won't support walmart even if they offer gays perks, because I want walmart to die off because of their willingness to violate human rights for money.Fuck walmart

4. Yes, but they say "Merry Christmas" and sell "Left Behind" books
That makes it all okay.

:sarcasm:

5. I don't ever recall seeing a Wal-Mart ad in a gay publication
I'm glad Wal-Mart is providing "pro-homosexual seminars," but Wal-Mart has already lost my business for so many, many reasons. They don't stock emergency contraception ... they censor music sold int heir stores ... they refuse to carry books like George Carlin's "Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops" but have entire racks of "inspirational" books by pseudo-christian whackjobs ... they treat their employees like shit ... they are anti-union ... the quality of their clothing and other goods is crap ... etc., etc., etc.

When it comes right down to it, their advertising in any medium is completely unlikely to get me in the door.
