First gay 'marriages' celebrated in the UK
THE FIRST gay couples to take advantage of new laws allowing them to "marry" did not let protesters ruin their special day.

Shannon Sickels and Grainne Close made history today when they pledged their love for one another during a private ceremony at Belfast City Hall under the new civil partnership legislation.

Henry Kane and Christopher Flanagan arrived for their ceremony about 20 minutes later in a pink stretch limousine.

Two men wearing false Hitler moustaches, checked blazers and underpants provided a comical sideshow to the main event by holding aloft banners which read "Earth is Flat" and "Bring Back Slavery".
