Next year I'm going to talk to churches about gay rights
There is a constitutional amendment being proposed in Wisconsin which would make it even more difficult for gay and lesbian couples to have rights with regard to their relationships. I saw this issue being used to divide the country last year during the election, and it makes me sick that its going to be happening in Wisconsin. I am neither gay nor married so the issue does not affect me personally.

However I am a Christian, and it doesn't take too much work to see that one of the primary groups which opposes marriage equality are churches. My views have evolved considerably over the years, so I feel like I would be a good person to talk to undecided Christians about voting against this amendment.

I recently went through the training with a group called Action Wisconsin to be a speaker, and asked to be assigned to speak at Churches. Its going to be a challenge for me, but I need a challenge.

I am posting this both to offer some hope and to ask for support!

1. Good for you and thanks for your hard work.
The mainline protestant denominations all have active GLBT organizations. They would be happy to support you, and are already doing work within their denominations. Some denominations, like the Unitarians, United Church of Christ and Episcopalians to a slightly lesser degree are very supportive. You will find more support than you thought. Good luck.

3. Thanks!
I don't expect to change too many minds among the hard core fundamentalists, but they probably won't ask for speakers anyway. But I think there is a real mix of people in the mainline protestant churches who just need to think about the issue in a different way. This is fundamentally about justice and equality for all people... and about using the consitution to broaden rights, not to restrict them!

5. Thank you so much!
It means a lot to me to know that others are out there willing to present the reasonable and Christ-like side of the issue.
