Crazy idea: Let's invade a State
Yeah, I know it's crazy but hear me out. My idea comes from the formation of Israel. In a nut shell they began to migrate to Palestine, buy and control land, and eventually formed their own State.

I wonder what would happen if we tried to operate under a similar idea. Form a large corporation with subsidiary businesses - for buying land and providing services and such. We begin our work by collecting donations and then buying housing in a low populated State. We then begin to help people migrate from their current states to the state we selected, help them find a job (or provide them with a job upon arrival), provide them with housing on arrival, provide betterment education, etc. As we begin to out number the straights in the state we'll be able to vote as a block, controlling the state legislature and governorship. We could then pass laws that give us full equality, and begin to use the position to put pressure on the federal government to provide the same laws for the entire country.

In essence, we'd at least gain a strong community where we could live openly and without fear of oppression. (And straights would get a chance to see what it's like to walk a mile in our shoes.) We'd also get the ability to find out just how far "states rights" really go.

To help boost our numbers, we could even think of ways to aid in the immigration of gays from other countries that have even more oppressive laws than the United States.

A crazy but an amusing idea.

1. You can take over Kansas, as long as you let the straight lefties stay.
We'd all be thrilled to have you! :hi:

2. I vote Alabama.
Cause then we'd have to speak of the RLO (Red-Neck Liberation Organization) doing battle against the infidels who have tarnished the sacred ground. And by tarnished I mean, cleaned up the dip spit from the floor.

Alabama has nice weather, and is pretty much a blank slate.

12. Okay.
I was all planning to suggest the NW - lord knows there's a good enough feeder stock, a solid base of homasekshuls upon which to build the incoming hordes - when I decided to take a brief foray into the cascadia website.
I have now quit spewing spittle on my computer, from laughing so hard, but I must say, that is at once the finest website I have ever seen, the funniest website I have ever seen (except for possibly GYWO), and the most hope-inspiring website I've ever seen.
Think of it. We start loading up the NW not only with queers, but also all other good-thinking lefties! The way the feds are going, soon enough they won't be able to police DC, much less Cascadia! We'll be able to do whatever we want! Look out righties, the Sasquatch Militia is growing, and boy do they have fabulous uniforms!

4. Let's start with Alabama
Maybe we could trade Alabama for Uruguay, Alabama could become part of South America and we could have Uruguay.

There's a nice waterfall there that might get some tourist dollars. South America could then have to deal with that bizarre Moore guy and his 10 ton 10 commandments. I'd send some dollars to have them shipped to South America.

5. Lots and lots of available land in Nebraska, and they are BEGGING
for people to move there; they've been bleeding population for 50 years. I bet you could cut a very nice deal with them.

Do it, and I'll try my best to do business with people from your community as a show of support. (Hint: Set up a place that sells ink tanks and paper for Epson large-format printers. I use a lot of that stuff.)

8. Total population of Nebraska as of 2000:
Total population of Nebraska as of 2000: 1,711,263

Wyoming still has less: 493,782

10. Though Nebraska has actual towns that are half or 3/4 empty, so
the infrastructure would be there for you already.

Just trying to be helpful.

11. I think Redstone makes an excellent point.
It'll be a lot easier for you folks with the towns and so on already there, plus lots of good farmland. There's a reason Wyoming is so underpopulated - it's a nice place, but pretty rocky.

I can't wait to visit Gaybraska!

13. Better idea: invade a megachurch.
How about if 20,000 gay and lesbian Christians suddenly showed up at Joel Osteen's church in Houston, or John Hagee's church in San Antonio. Or if 20,000 gay Christians walked into Falwell's church every Sunday morning.

Osteen's young enough, but I think Hagee or Falwell would keel.

14. Louisiana.
WE rebuild NOLA, from the ground up, improve the infrastructure and levees and floodwalls and so on and, in the process, buy up the outlying areas. Move everyone back into their homes, rebuilt as they were before. We ourselves move into the outlying areas around NOLA, and expand from there.

I'm thinking there needs to be a gesture of goodwill to all somewhere in the mix. It just seems right, somehow.

My best friend and I have often wished there were an island or colony of gays and lesbians in which we could live in safety and peace.

18. South Carolina - here
Since we've got the Christian Exodus invading the Upstate the coast line of South Carolina is ready to break off. You've got to understand that Charleston would never, ever, ever listen to anyone from the Upstate. We could draw the state line as all the land east of I-95; from Wilmington (home to film & television production) down to Jacksonville, FL. It's warm down here; live and let live in most of the Charleston area. Charleston seceded from South Carolina before it seceded from the USA. We've got beaches, golf, fantastic food and land to spread out.

Why not draw a line in the state that has already been targeted for a mass Christian Exodus?

19. Maybe moving in en masse into lightly populated anti-gay states isn't
a good idea. Sure, we could take over Wyoming, the least populated state in the union, but we can be certain there would be a good deal of violent opposition. Maybe we should go to Iowa. Only about 3 mil live there and there's a surprisingly large number of liberals and Democrats already there. Vermont would probably easiest since it only has 500k people and is already liberal so I don't think many people would mind so much.
