Get ready for the right wing fundies to start attacking Walmart!!!!!!
A friend who works at a Walmart in Sacramento told me there's a sign standing inside the main door advertising the pending arrival of Brokeback Mountain on DVD!!!

I couldn't believe it so I went and looked for myself, and yep....you can purchase a gay-themed DVD at Walmart soon!!! :applause: WOW.

Oh my God....wait until the right wing fundamentalist christian republican haters start hearing about this! They're going to go through the roof!!

Walmart caves, and agrees to sell the morning after pill and now this!! I FRICKEN LOVE IT!!!

Lets see how long it takes for Walmart corporate to change its mind ;)

5. WalMart has carried several gay-themed movies ...
... though they tended to be the bland, mediocre sort like "Birdcage," "To Wong Foo ..." and "In and Out."

But I have to admit I was surprised when I was looking at coming releases on the WalMart web site and discovered they'd also be carrying "The Dying Gaul" when it comes out in a few weeks.

Maybe WalMart has learned a valuable lesson. To paraphrase the "Love is a force of nature" tag line from the "Brokeback Mountain" movie posters: "Hit movies are a force of economics."

7. The only lesson Walmart has learned (which I believe is your point)

is that it all comes down to the almighty dollar.

Stocking the pill, Brokeback and other gay themes movies has NOTHING to do with Walmart being tolerant!

It's to make even more money.

At least that's my opinion :)

edit: spelling

6. Have they edited out all the references to homosexuality?
like they censor music?

8. Hmmm, that's a good question. I wonder if they're allowed
to censor retail versions of motion pictures?

Doing so would obviously alter the theme and perhaps that would be some sort of copyright violation? But maybe not...I dunno!

9. There was recently a ruling on this IIRC
It involved a device that could edit the movies, and it was ruled to violate the copyright.

10. Yea, I'm not surprised. Perhaps the only editing allowed is for
profanity and nudity?????

11. Some city council will determine that it's adult material that needs
to be on some special shelf like they do with those library books. And possibly the Clay Aiken CD's now.

12. It will be an expurgated version
I seem to remember reading that Wal-Mart and other "family friendly" (read: religious right wing aligned) retailers only carried doctored versions where "dirty words" are dubbed over and "wicked scenes" (ie sex, never violence) are trimmed or removed entirely. I expect that Wal-Mart will not be carrying the actual movie, just the Family Channel version.
