Spitzer Endorses Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/032206spitzer.htm

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has become the first candidate for governor in the history of the Empire State to publicly endorse same-sex marriage - even though he is currently in court defending a state law banning gay unions.

Spitzer is the frontrunner in the race for the Democratic nod for governor. His expected running mate, Senate Minority Leader David Paterson also supports same-sex marriage as do all six people seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General and state Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi, also a Democrat.

They are all among more than 40 elected officials across NY state who have signed onto an initiative by Empire State Pride Agenda - New York's LGBT rights group - called New Yorkers for the Freedom to Marry.

"We are proud that elected officials all across the state are joining clergy members in standing up for our families and for a New York where all people are treated equally under the law,” said Alan Van Capelle, Executive Director of Pride Agenda.

1. "Freedom to Marry"
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 01:13 PM by BOSSHOG
What federal law now prevents homosexuals from getting married? I strongly urge any homosexuals living in states which ban gay marriage not to pay taxes. Very simple and easily understood issue, no equal protection under the law.

3. All Dem statewide candidates but one support gay marriage
Hillary Clinton is the one who does not, in fact is opposed to it, having stated that marriage is between a man and a woman only.

5. Reminds me of what Bill Maher said
about her and other politicians pandering to the stupid by feigning their stupidity. We don't need those people to have control. We need smart, reasonable people and if politicians (especially Democrats) want to ignore us, then they will not have our support.

6. Exactly.
People need leaders, people with real moral courage. Visionaries who can show misguided people the way, give them confidence to do what is right. Hillary is all wrong for this time in our history.

7. Suozzi
and his Republican friends will try everything they can to bring down Spitzer, they see him as a threat because he doesn't cower down when it comes to speaking up about issues that most Democrats are passionate about. I, frankly, would not be surprised if Suozzi drops out of the Democratic primary and runs as a Republican. The anti-Spitzers from both parties are in major campaign mode.
